I only saw the last 20 minutes and it was an incredible turnaround by the Czechs to get a draw.
Maybe it was commentators curse but in the very minute they were saying Croatia were looking for goal 3 the Czechs scored their first.
Then the Croatians in the crowd went crazy followed by the silly hand ball to give the Czechs the equalizer.

when i think of the security checks i go through when i go to away games in the premier league it amazes me that the checks at a major tournament in a country on heightened terrorist alerts are so crap...
There's one other element of the Croatian crowd trouble that wasn't shown on the TV coverage but might hold some clues as to what it involved.
A banner was held up by some Croatian fans in the area where the fighting occurred - which I suspect will be translated very shortly.

I'm sure the way you describe it is correct, but we are talking about a country which is in a state of emergency which overrides any extra security measures for a Euro competition. It is simply staggering security could be so lax in such circumstances. I would have thought just one flare at one ground would have immediately triggered a crack down and if that means it takes much longer to get people into the grounds, well tough.
Interesting question re the crowd disturbance; previous bad conduct by Croatian fans will also be taken into account I expect.
With such lax security regarding fireworks and flares it's only a matter of time before someone brings in a bag of grenades and has a free for all in the stadium.

Just listening to Conor McNamara on 5 Live who's stated that the disorder seemed to be pre-planned and arranged between two sets of Croatian 'ultras'.

I had both a Croatia win and Croatia -1. Was thinking I was safe so didn't cash out
Before the tournament there was talk of them encouraging fans to get to the stadium 3 hours before the match for security checks etc. Football fans just aren't going to do that.
It's ok having a pat down but if they're hiding firecrackers inside their shoes (they're not that big), I'm not sure how they can stop it. If someone is determined to get these things inside the stadium, they will find a way.

Those stupid flares ruined the game. They are a disgrace to their national team. I can see others in this thread are bigger supporters of the Croatian team than those thugs, and I don't see any FM is even Croatian. I include myself, I have been a fan of this team and the country in general ever since France 1998, often supporting them alongside England. For the first time since then Croatia are looking strong, confident in possession and winning the ball back easily, getting praise from pundits.
I like points to be won fair and square, what was the point of those Croats to do that? Don't they want to win the match? They are a disgrace to their country. Look at Albania, they lost their first game but they never did that.
I was reading Darijo Srna's Wikipedia page during the match before it turned to shit and it was quite interesting to read about his personal life. It didn't mention about the death of his dad. He seems like a great guy.

I said this before when I saw the captain of a team making a nuisance of himself towards the end of a match the other day. It's not only contestants from Big Brother, Reality TV or daft celebrities who want air time, Footballers and even refs want to be in on the action

Previous bad conduct wasn't taken into account by UEFA re the Russians so I can't see them doing anything different with Croatia.
A warning and a big fine to fill UEFA's coffers is more likely!

I was willing the Czech republic on to score another goal and win the match after the way the Croatian fans behaved,
But you do have to call into question the security checks done if fans manage to get flares into a match.

It is totally irrelevant the reason(s) behind it, the only thing that matters is the act itself, and to stop a match due to multiple flares and firecrackers on the pitch is unacceptable.
The team should be on their final warning, this happens again, out they go, and Turkey gets their spot.
