SPFL TV picks aren't as interesting or complicated as in the English Premier League but it'll be good to keep track and speculate nonetheless.

My understanding is that Sky and BT will no longer show Championship games (play-offs aside), but BBC Alba will continue to do so. In terms of speculating about picks, I also believe it's the case that, basically, Sky have overall control insofar as if they want to show a game on a certain weekend, they have first pick. There's a limit of 6 home games for each team.

The only guarantee so far is that all Old Firm games will be on Sky.

For the opening weekend, I predict:

Hearts v Celtic - Sky
St Johnstone v Aberdeen - BT

Rangers v Hamilton to go uncovered because they'll want to keep back Rangers home games for later in the season (up to 2 vs. Celtic, 2 vs. Aberdeen, 2 vs. Hearts...)

Will Sky/BT still be showing a Quota of Championship Matches, I guess they might but won't they just be 10 Hibs Games.

If and when Hibs get promoted, I guess the Championship won't get shown

Why do the SPFL always allow Celtic to miss the second weekend, due to some friendly

Sorry didn't notice they wouldn't be showing Championship games before I started

Guess BT will mainly end up with the lesser games again, as that is how it always has felt to me

The original deal was that they would show games from whichever division Rangers were in, although I guess they didn't bank on Hibs, well, being Hibs.

The recent extension quoted only 30 "top flight" games each, but it's possible there's still the 10 or so Championship games in there. We'll find out relatively soon, I guess.

Because Celtic demand it.

Technically any club can cancel an early season home fixture to play a friendly, but only Celtic can make it commercially worthwhile.

Sky will certainly hoover up all the Old Firm derbies and, you'd expect, Celtic/Rangers games vs. Hearts and Aberdeen. But once you start moving down the league, Celtic and Rangers away games are much of a muchness and will attract an audience regardless.

Glasgow Derby on NYE must be lunchtime KO?

Or moved to the following day.

Actually, I'd expect all the Hogmanay () fixtures to move either to lunchtime or NYD. It's seems bizarre for them not to have been scheduled for the latter anyway.

Christmas Eve is a head-scratcher, though. Even allowing for a midweek round, they could have gone Monday-Thursday-Sunday/Monday.

Neil Alexander did say on SSNHQ, that they would listen to clubs regarding the Christmas Eve fixtures.

But his excuse was they see 3pm on a Saturday as important

As sky likely to have Manu v man city at 1230 on Sep 10th, unless they play it Fri night, then I foresee sky asking for old firm at 12 on Sun, with proviso of moving it to sat lunch if Celtic qualify for champs league

If Celtic don't make the League Stage of the Champions League Celtic v Rangers, could be classed as a Brendan Rodgers needs to win game

Derek Rae mentioned that the 30 game split was for all SPFL games so in theory they could pick Championship games. I wonder if the Neil Lennon factor might make (more likely BT) pick a handful of their games. After covering the Championship this campaign I feel it deserves regular coverage... Really do, going to be an interesting league this season.

If BT/Sky don't show Hibs-Falkirk, I guess that or St Mirren-Morton may be a stick on BBC Alba pick.

You mention Mark about the guaranteed thing is four Old Firms on Sky. The other is that up to six games in the playoffs (but more likely 4, SF onwards) will be on BT.

There is no guarantee Rangers will get into top 6. There is a minimum of three Celtic vs Rangers games on Sky.

To be fair, there is no guarantee that Celtic will either, but both are likely.

Don't watch a lot of Scottish Football but I would expect Rangers would still be targeting Europa League

The SPFL really should if possible bring in set kick off times for the next contract. At the moment there all over the place. It would be easier if BT had all the rights.

A bit of strange decision by Sky to schedule the Old Firm clash at the same time as the Manchester derby.

Celtic could be playing in the Champions League the following Tuesday.

On the flip side. Sky can go all crazy Super crazy with their promotion of two big derbies alongside each other and do split screen red button and what not...

Most of the best SPFL games will again be on Sky like Hearts v Celtic, Rangers v Aberdeen Rangers v Celtic and BT Sport will be left with some of the rest.
Hope the Leauge this season is not all just about Rangers and Celtic like it has been in the past.
Shame there is not going to be any highlights of the Scottish Campionship this season.

Yes, but it's still a possibility.

My guess is that Police Scotland didn't want to take the risk of it needing to be moved back to the Saturday because of the huge operation involved (cancelled leave, senior officers on duty etc.).
