£250 is a very low budget. I wouldn't touch a Bush myself.

How about this one?

Looks interesting, however wanted to get a TV today.

I could go up to £300 and this one looks quite good, again not a big brand, Hitachi

Would you recommend that? Smart and TV and its 48inch

Chances are both the Bush and Hitachi and possibly the Hisense in Stig's link were thrown together in the same Turkish or Chinese factory. It is entirely possible that the same basic TV appears under several different names where the only difference is the badge glued to the front.

Personally I wouldn't touch any of these low end makes with someone elses bargepole much less my own If you can't stretch to a top end Sony or Panasonic then I would not really go lower than LG or Samsung.

You may find those TVs do everything you need. But don't expect the absolute best quality picture and reliability from them. As always you get what you pay for.

I have decided to go for Panasonic low end

Seems the best TV at under £300

Good reviews as well

To be honest a low end Panasonic is probably thrown together in the same factory as the Bush & Hitachi.

There certainly were (still are?) some Panasonic ranges at the bottom end of the scale that were made by Vestel

Not too sure whether this is one of them or if they still do it? I seem to recall seeing discussion that Panasonic were ending the deal with Vestel but not sure when.

If it takes forever to start up it's probably made by Vestel, I bought a Toshiba and found out it was a Vestel and swapped for a Panasonic which was much better.

The deal has already ended (after Panasonic were inundated with complaints and faulty sets), but there will still be Vestel made sets in shops (and perhaps still the supply chain?).

Not a 100% guarantee, but the remote control appears to be virtually identical to the CS620 I've got which is a genuine Panny (the only difference is colour, mine's silver, the one pictured is black) - when I looked around last year, the Vestel ones had a different remote to the rest of the Panny range, yet this appears to be the same as the 500 and 600 series.

Both of those have pictures of the remote and you can clearly see the difference.

I don't know anything about the manufacturer but Hisense seem to becoming very popular right now.

Sadly Panasonic have a reputation for terrible customer service when things go wrong. The most recent problem being sets a few years old with satellite tuners not working with ITV HD. Panasonic have shrugged their shoulders and wrongly blamed ITV when clearly the sets don't meet the published specifications.
Prievous examples have been MPEG 4 sets not working in Ireland, and before that the split nit problem.

You may be lucky of course and not have problems, but if you do don't expect help from Panasonic.

How many more times are you going to tell the same story?

I'd much rather deal with Panasonic than Bush or another generic brand. Anyway, the first step is to complain to the retailer, not the manufacturer. That's why it's just as important where you buy as what you buy.

Quite. And the not working in Ireland issue is irrelevant - these are UK market sets and work as such. There is no legislative requirement to make sets pan-European, so that complaint is completely unwarranted.

The story needs to be told every time someone who does not know considers buying a Panasonic set. The Ireland issue concerned many people who bought sets in Northern Island to use down south or near the border. Panasonic had deliberately crippled the sets not to work in Ireland to illegally protect their Irish dealer network.

Telling that information is no different from repeatedly saying Vestel sets are low quality.

In what way does it 'illegally' protect their Irish dealers?

As stated before the sets are sold as UK spec, not Irish, German, French or Outer Mongolian compliant.

Hence they only need to make the UK compliant. There is no requirement to sell Irish sets in the UK and anyone who buys a set in the UK to use outside the UK does so at their own risk - caveat emptor, I believe.

The OP got a Panasonic, hence the subsequent discussion.
