Cat's body taken
Scrumper

About a week ago my cat died. The next day I buried her body.

Now I just went down the garden and something has dug and taken it

What kind of animal would do this? Should I be worried there's something nasty in the vicinity? There is some feces nearby.

Do you ever see any animals in your garden? Was maybe a fox or badger.

Certainly foxes about. Would they eat something that's been dead almost 2 weeks?

sadly sounds like a fox. When we had the farm its amazing actually how far down they would dig. When we lost Roger dad easily dug down 5 ft and they still tried to dig up the grave. After that we always buried the pets in a tin box and that seemed to do the trick

That happened to us when we buried one of our late beloved budgies in our back yard. We aren't sure what sort of a creature dug his carcass up, a raccoon, maybe?

Same thing happened to us as it did to you, the grave robber left one of his 'calling cards' behind.

We don't bury our deceased birds in the garden anymore. We give them a watery sendoff.

We live directly across the street from a fast moving river.

I'm sorry this happened to you. It's very unsettling, isn't it?

Yes it was pretty distressing

Never had this happen before, 3 other cats buried along with guinea pig, gerbils and fish. Very hard to dig deep, after a foot and half there is red clay.

Yes like you say it probably was a fox, thanks for the kind replies.

Fox. I would have liked to bury my cat in her garden but knowing I wasn't able to dig down four feet meant I just had her cremated.
