Almost free TVs - Carling "Pay per inch" promotion

I'm really surprised I can't find any mention of this promotion on the DS forums - and I apologise for not posting this sooner. For thos eof you not aware of the promotion, Carling are selling "Full HD" (which for some reason don't actually have tuners that can receive Freeview HD, not htat I'm bothered 'cos I just feed the TV the output from my Youview box, and I can pause/FF/skip adverts as I wish, along with the YV's HD capability) Samsung TVs for a pound per inch of their screensize. Just go to

https://www.payperinchtv.com/#/

All you 'll be able to do at the moment is enter your DOB, but the sales are on Sundays at 19:00, at some time around 18;40 you can register, the rest of the details are on the website, and good luck!!

(I should point out that I managed to "grab" one of the 40" TVs in the first sale, and, with the HD feed from my YV box, it is actually very good.)

So basically a competition

So what's the scam here? Are they ancient dogsh*t tvs? Because a 10 year old 40 inch tv isn't worth 40 quid.

No scam - it's just a competition where they have a few to give away at low prices.

I googled one of the models on the website and it seemed to be some special range intended for hotels and the like.

This is a fastest finger first sale, not a competition (which is generally a free prize given to someone via a random draw from entries, a random draw from all correct answers or in rare cases, the winner is the xth entry). The ASA would have a field day with Carling if they advertised this as a competition.

I don't understand how this works exactly - it says you need to fill in a short form but you can't do this until the sale starts. So is it just a case of having to complete it asap?
