But four teams couldn't overhaul them though
England and Wales wins will see N. Irish through if they lose by no more than 1 goal I think.

It's a bit more complex than that but not by much - if Wales beat Russia and England beat Slovakia, we need to better Slovakia's GD by one. So in other words get beaten by Germany by one less goal than England beat Slovakia.

Our best chance still comes from the other groups though, was always unlikely that this group would yield the results we're looking for.

Right. I think the chances are still good as long as you avoid a hiding by Germany.

Third in group in a, b, f plays the winner of the Germany group.

So Albania are behind Slovakia so does that mean it becomes the best of b v f

No if Albania get through then it will be Albania vs Germany. Only if Albania go out will it be Slovakia vs Germany.

As it stands NI will be through tonight. Czech Rep 1-0 down and must win to overtake NI.

Arent Turkey on -4GD, so would need to win by 4 clear goals?

I'll get worried about that if Turkey go 3-0 up, until then I'm cheering every Turkish attack.

It would even leave open the chance of all 4 'home nations' going through, had assumed it would be Republic v NI for the last of the 3rd place qualifier spots but if Turkey win it can be both.

Itv4 have decided turkey will still go out with a 1-0 win.

But that isn't the case at all

Really? They need 4 clear goals to go through.

Mathematically no but realistically yes.

They know they need more.

They need a big win to overtake Northern Ireland on goal difference or they're definitely gone.

EDIT: ignore me, Bosox's reply below makes more sense

They need to win by 4 clear goals to overtake NI and Albania. They could still go through if teams in Group E/F don't reach 3 points.

Unfortunately for them that means relying on Neither Ireland or Sweden winning (certainly possible arguably probable) and Portugal losing to Hungary (even a draw would take Portugal to 3 points and clear of Turkey on GD).

At least it is simple for ROI, win and they are through, lose or draw and they are out

But if they win 1nil

Hungary beat Portugal

Iceland draw with or beat Austria

Italy beat Ireland

Belgium beat Sweden they will still go through with a 1nil by my calculations

Yeah in my head I had it as them either overtaking NI or going home, forgetting the other games still to come.

For once we might get a full on exciting contest at these Euros with both sides going for the win. Ireland because it's win or go home and Italy because their backup players are looking to catch the eye and they have nothing to lose with their place at the top of the group assured.

Ireland having to go for it is kind of outwith their style so I can see them being picked off

Depends on Albania.

If Albania qualify, Wales play Albania.
If Albania fail to qualify, Wales play NI.
