Man I hate Portugal. Every tournament I back them and every time they disappoint me. I wouldn't be surprised if Hungary get the better of them too now. Lots of Ronaldo criticism around but you can't deny his passion. He had a shocker but then you'd hope that the others around him would step up and they didn't. Nani, such a disappointing player.

Missed 4 of his last 5 penalties and still insisted on taking it tonight, the egomaniacal prick deserved that.

Thought I'd posted this earlier... Wait for the man United fans to jump on this thread tomorrow to defend Ronaldo!
I don't know why. All the Utd fans I know think he's a ****. he left them before his best years too.

2 problems for Portugal here.

1) Insisting on possession football even though it blatently isn't working.

2) Relying too much on 1 man. I don't think it works well at all anymore at international level in modern game. Zidane and Maradona the only 2 names I can remember it working on a big scale. Same situation with Argentina WC 2014 (scraping through the only quality side they played on penalties and losing to the next). Media hyping these guys up obnouxiously and they mostly always under perform.

Good point from Jermaine. Ronnie's going to be desperate to smash Hungary.

Why are BBC praising him ? he doesn't deserve it. Every single game for Portugal it's the same story, it becomes the Ronaldo show. If i was Portugal's coach, i would be blaming him for the position they are in now, he always shoots, he never takes the better option.

Portugal should still go through. Hungary pretty much guaranteed qualification with 4 points and Austria can't finish above them, but tonight was a great result for Portugal haters like me!

If Ronaldo was playing against England tonight

He would have scored a Hat trick

What was really weird was that United fans hated him at the summer of 2008 when he made the slave comments, then a year later were calling him a legend and what not when he left for Madrid.

What passion? He wants thr glory. I see no chasing players down, no running after lost causes, no rousing of his team mates

True, he is always very selfish. I don't follow domestic football, what is he like playing for his club?

People said that he would take it out on Austria after his frustration against Iceland, didn't work out that way tonight.

This is a different kind of frustration.

Even the best need a good team around them, unless you're Maradona.

We only get 'one' match a day for the next two days? WTF, who came up with this schedule?

I do. I think he is an amazing finisher, possibly the best ever, but i don't think he is one of the greatest FOOTBALLERS i have ever seen. I don't think he is the 2nd best on the planet either, there is a fair few better than him, and 4 of them are playing for Barcelona right now.

True, and those two sides (Portugal and Sweden) are two very poor sides.

For the last six seasons, and Real Madrid's all time leading goal scorer, so not too shabby.

Odd match. Amusing to see Ronaldo not scoring despite so many chance but really, Austria were woeful and deserved to get put to the sword. No desire to win the game whatsoever.

Owen10's posts about Ronaldo throughout the night have been bizarrely bipolar. One minute he's great and the next he's shite. One post you have your house on him scoring and the next he's never going to score again. Mental.
