No need to dive in and try to win it there. He was on the halfway line. Awful.

Starting to think Ireland will not be able to win this game.

I would like to see that happen. I think NI are a significantly better side than Ireland, at least on what I have seen in this tournament.

Is it that much of a shock the difference in quality between the two teams is enourmous

Ireland could have easily had a penalty before Belgium's first goal.

I don't think goal difference will be that important to Ireland really.

If Ireland beat Italy, they'll have four points - and I don't see four other third place countries ending up with four points.

I hate to say it, but I think it's that Ireland are bad. Italy defended much better against them and were a threat going forwards. Ireland haven't really been any threat at all and their defence has been poor.

Conte will give a chance to some of the players that haven't featured yet. Won't be an easy game though.

On paper the Republic should have better players but Northern Ireland come across as more of a team. Then again, let's see how they do against Germany as they haven't had opposition as tough as Belgium yet.

There is no "if" Ireland will not beat Italy, the Italians will have far too much for them.

Ireland were wasting time from the first whistle. Their lousy tactics were ruined the moment Belgium scored the first. Thank god they scored early in the second half. We've at least had some entertainment now.

No point in bringing Keane on now when the game is over and done with, with both teams just playing out time.

Perhaps, but I'm just making the point that the scale of Ireland's defeat today will in all likelihood not change what they have to do against Italy.
