I hope all the home nations and Republic of Ireland do well, but as a Englishman I hope England do better naturally, don't expect England to win the tournament but would like to see them progress beyond the group stages and if they progress further then that will be a bonus, just don't get the childish attitude of some non English who say they always support whoever England play against, if you are neutral just remain neutral that's what I do, no harm no foul so to speak.

If you are English....why would anyone support another home nation,...same would apply if your Scottish, Welsh & Irish.

The British nations are often regarded as a single entity particularly in other sports so it's not a great stretch for people to root for them.

No, I tend to sip port after a nice meal with a few nice cheeses. With football, a nice cold continental lager such as Grolsch or Heineken is the tipple of choice. For matches of Eire, I'd go for a Guinness or Kilkenny. But hey, each to to their own!

Yes, I always support all the home nations and the republic.
But I would be eligible to play for all 5 nations, so maybe I'm a bit biased.

I don't support them and was happy they got humiliated yesterday.

No, I don't feel any affinity for the Republic of Ireland. No dislike either. It's like watching Venezuela, Switzerland or Chad to me in that I don't really care.

Could maybe support them in a particular match if they were a big underdog, had showed a style of football that I liked, or played with a certain attitude that I admired. The same for if the team they were playing against had shown things I didn't like, or had players in it that I disliked etc.

That applies to everyone though. Found myself supporting Iceland against Portugal for example.

The Republic of Ireland are no more a home nation than France are. Should we all support France?

If you like. Is anyone telling you that you have to support anyone?

No but some parts of the British media treat the ROI as a home nation. I am merely making the point they are not.

Millions of people in Britain are Irish or of Irish descent so it makes sense for them to be included as a de facto home side. It's not exactly a political statement, it's just convenience.
