Teams sign players to complement squads all the time rather than directly replacing one player, this is why there are more than 11 players in a squad.

I will gladly take James then, if Real do not want him any longer!

Ah really, I never realised that was how things worked!

Kingsley Coleman is France's Raheem Sterling. Bemused by the commentators singing his praises - 15 passes with a completion rate of 68% says it all.

Wink all you like, you ask that question all the time which suggests you don't.

*sigh*

You said you didn't bring club games into it. I just pointed out that if you had, you wouldn't have criticised him in the way that you did, before and after he came on, AND the comments I read you make in the topic for Belgium's other game.

Quote:
“He was brought on to try and get a goal (as that is why you tend to bring on a sub striker is it not??) and in that particular match he didn't manage to do so; so that was what I was basing my opinion of him on that night.

For example Lukaku played very poorly in the first Belgian match, yet I can recognise that he played well in their second one against the Republic of Ireland, so if Sterling, Origi have better games then I will say so, their clubs don't come into my thinking on that.”

But he wasn't "poor", he just failed to score in 15 minutes, and you can't have been basing your opinions on that in the posts you made before he was brought on.

But it doesn't matter, no need to derail the topic on such a throwaway comment.

They would have got runners up of Germany group if they finished second in their group

They've been playing prime time in Europe and I'm sure many neutrals have tuned in to watch their talented players set the tournament alight. Quite frankly they've been awful relative to their talents.

It looks like we will have to wait for the knock out stages to see the great players playing at their best

Yeah, he's predominantly hype for me too. A few moments of quality are usually followed with desperate wastefulness.

Do you think Deschamps knows what his best team is

Because i dont think he has a clue

His best team is the one that started the first game I think. Tonight he just wanted to try a couple of others out knowing that France were already though.

The media always seems to back/ overhype the host nations of football tournaments you hear comments which are clearly not representative of what you actually see, they were singing the praises of a very average Brazil side 2 years ago and I knew the moment Brazil came up against a decent team they would get swallowed up and exposed. The same thing will happen to France although their team as a whole is not as bad as that Brazil team, they will no doubt get found out once they come up against a Spain or an Italy or even dare I say it an England.

I would have really fancied them to go all the way, if they had Raphael Varane and Karim Benzema in their side as i think the teams weaknesses are defence and attack

Benzema is a huge loss as is Varane, Payet appears to be the only player capable of doing anything useful for France. Switzerland should have won that game.

I think there's two reasons for the hype. There's always viewer curiousity about how well the host nation will do so if broadcasters hype them up, extra viewers might tune in. Like with Brazil I was looking forward to watching France's games but like with Brazil, they've been very disappointing.

France are abysmal. Will get to the semis due to corrupt UEFA tactics to keep the hosts in until at least that far.

I wouldn't go that far at all - the Swiss did very little of note and France hit the bar several times.

France haven't looked like tournament winners so far but they are the host nation, and Deschamps has done a quite frankly ludicrous amount of dicking around with the starting XI. The knockout stages will define them.

France have done enough to win their group. Have to pace yourself in a competition.

For me, the disappointment has been Griezmann, although he's in a different role in the France side to the AM side. Martial has also disappointed. Matuidi hasn't been at his best. Gignac is truly awful.
On the plus side, Pogba is a great talent although so far we've only seen moments and he's been unlucky with finishing too. Payet is playing brilliantly. Rami is better than I expected and a strong character to play alongside the more timid Koscielny.
I think Deschamps has every idea who his first X1 is in the knock out games.

Quite a few of the pitches are awful. They've had more rain than usual in June in many parts of France but they aren't up to scratch in Paris, Marseille, Toulouse and Lille (the worst possibly although Paris Stade de France a close contest).

Agree with you on Griezmann, I don't think the way France play suits him. He's used to playing on the counter attack, with France playing teams who are sitting back, he's unable to find the space behind.

Never rated Matuidi!!
