They're right in the thick of it. They're one of the biggest UK bands in the US since The Beatles (but they're a whole different thread, possibly). These people are not just 'lucky' or merely very talented, they are chosen imho.


I could write a book on this but OK I'll give one example which should shut you up on this subject forever (if you've any sense). If you are genuine please don't take that the wrong way, just quietly go away and study for an hour or two, until you''re ready to comment If you're geuinely curious you'll see it, I'm sure. I was the biggest Coldplay fan ever, and they're amazing live..but there's a reason behind it and now I won't have anything to do with them.

Not seeing any of the Pyramid headliners. To be honest it's the worst line up since I've been going but still more than enough there to get your money's worth. Looking forward to M83 , Underworld and the return of LCD Soundsystem

I will listen to Heal but not sure which Coldplay song it is you mean is ripped from Heal?

I've seen them a couple of times and ZZ Top are great live. But apart from them, Muse, and PJ Harvey, I'm struggling to find anyone else in this year's line-up I'd go and see.

Other than Coldplay & Muse the only bands I would go out of my way to see are New Order & Editors.

My other half finally got to go last year, it was on his bucket list.

He said walking around Glastonbury from Wed to Fri, before the music starts, was the most amazing thing ever. Some of the sights he saw! What happens in Glastonbury etc......

He got to listen to the Dalai Lama in a field somewhere, got to see one of his songwriting idols, Burt Bacharach. Said Lionel Richie brought the house down. He saw loads of great new acts in small tents dotted around Glastonbury, as Florence and Kanye not his thing.

He is gutted not to be there this year but will be glued all weekend! Said it was an experience he will never forget.

Reminds me of the time in my early teens I lent a friend a few of my Maiden LP's. Later that evening his parents turned up at our door returning the LP's and telling my parents that they didn't want their son listening to this Satanic music.....

Coldplay? A simple tin foil hat will keep you free of their insidious evil.

14 hour delays, a veritable mud bath, living like a caveman. Why does anyone want to put themselves through this, when you can watch it all from the comfort of your front room?

Research has confirmed those who attend Glastonbury Festival do so just to brag about it.

Revellers claim to go to the iconic festival for the music, counterculture attitudes and idyllic setting.

However, new research has shown that, in fact, their sole reason is knowing they’ll be able to tell anyone who’ll listen that they had a good time.

Professor Simon Williams, who conducted the study, explained: “It’s nonsense to think spending a weekend getting rained on, wading through mud and taking a dump in something that smells like Satan’s arse crack is fun for anyone.

“The only reason people go to Glastonbury and endure such misery is to fake that they’re having a good time.

“It means they get to saunter into the office on Monday, still hungover and looking like Worzel Gummidge, to fool colleagues into believing they’ve had a ‘life-changing experience’ and ‘the best time ever.’

“It’s utter rubbish. Everyone knows watching it on the telly in the comfort of your home is the best way to see the festival.

“I suppose if you wanted to add a bit of authenticity you could drop litter everywhere or let your dog crap on the carpet.

“But ultimately what we found was that watching it on TV in HD will never replace the satisfaction of knowing you’ll be able to boast to anyone in earshot about ‘the amazing Glasto vibes’.

Coldplay?!? They must be one of the least Satanic bands on the planet. I'd put The effing Osmonds ahead of them on that list.

Actually that isn't strictly true as The Temperance Movement and Joanne Shaw Taylor are also playing but I think it is unlikely either would be deemed worthy of coverage by the BBC...

ZZ Top, ELO (not even headlining, wtf?!), Joanne Shaw Taylor, Blackberry Smoke, Earth, Wind And Fire, The Temperance Movement and Adele are the only acts worth seeing on the entire bill.

I mean I get that Glastonbury is one of those festivals where it's less about the music and more about the "experience" nowadays but could they not have put a bit more effort into the festival bill?

As for the BBC highlights, of all the acts I listed above I reckon ELO, ADELE and EWF will be the only ones shown. Maybe ZZ Top at a push but I can't imagine they'll be showing JST, Blackberry Smoke or TTM.

Forget Glastonbury: the festivals that Britain really deserves

All of them I always thought that Heal was a blatant attempt to appeal to the softer part of the American market, but I now rarely listen to it because of it's generic Coldplay vibe. Not that it's the fault of Catherine Wheel of course, but I think it did coincide when they became less of a group and more of a Rob Dickinson backing band.

Well I have a little time for Coldplay anyway.

Re Catherine Wheel, I still adore Black Metallic, classic shoegaze.

Let's hope that when the magnificent Earth Wind & Fire play, they won't have to rush through their hits at breakneck speed like they were forced to on Strictly Come Dancing...
