In terms of the different athons(Quickstepathon/Swingathon), what do you think is the best dance for an "Athon"

In terms of the fact that it's lots of couples moving round the floor at once trying to be noticed by the judges (for the right reasons) then any of the ten dances as that's kind of what they're for anyway. I'd say the ballroom ones are more interesting to watch as they cover the floor more and have to navigate each other even at total beginner level. Waltz would be a good one - it's slow so the celeb boys might have a bit more time to think as they are leading. Viennese could be good as it's really pleasant to watch groups of people dancing viennese waltz competitively as there aren't many steps to it it looks almost like a formation dance and would be easiest to judge who was the best and worst out of the celebs. It's quite speedy though so maybe more prone to crashes in the hands of beginners.

Best has been the swingathon, but I reckon a jiveathon could work quite well

I also like the idea of a Viennese, it's a lovely to watch when several couples are dancing together. The celebs might be beginners, but they are all in the capable hands of professional partners - even the female pros are more than capable of leading their male celebs (or, if they are not, they shouldn't be on the show in the first place!)

They did a VW-athon the year of Ali Bastian, Ricky Whittle, Chris Hollins et al and it worked well. This dance engages the male lead's aggression in an -athon too as I recall Brian Fortuna barging through with Ali.

You're right, I'd forgotten that one, but now you mention it I remember Brian being aggressive - definitely out of order. A beginner can be forgiven - just - for 'barging' but not a pro dancer.

Just re-watched that group VW-athon (thanks for the link Dilly) and Brian tries to take out Anton, not quite, then manages better with Ricky by actively bumping him when Ricky's back was turned. Tsk, tsk!

I favour QS and VW for the Ballroom dances and Jive/Swing for Latin.
