Group B: Slovakia vs England - (20/6/16) KO 8pm, ITV1/HD
The game will also be broadcast online at ITV Hub and on BBC Radio 5 Live and talkSPORT.
This will be the 4th meeting between the nations with England winning the previous 3. In 6 previous games at a major tournament Slovakia have yet to keep a clean sheet. The only time England have played at this stadium was the classic Last 16 clash against Argentina in the 1998 World Cup. Wayne Rooney will play his 20th game for England at a major tournament, only Ashley Cole & Steven Gerrard have played more with 22. Carlos Velasco Carballo of Spain will referee. |

Going to be a few changes it seems with naturally Vardy and Sturridge coming in but maybe more surprisingly both the full backs being swapped and Henderson/Wilshere coming in for Rooney and Ali.
Clearly Roy has faith in the squad which is no bad thing but is this a risky or very bold move? You can see the headlines if it all goes wrong! |

Even with the changes England if they play and think positively from the start should win this and get away from the thoughts of only a draw is needed.

Game is also being shown on ITV 2. I'm guessing to give English living in Wales the option to watch it.

They had better do enough to win the group as I will be working Monday evening when the Group B runners up play their 16KO match.

I hope that if we make changes, that it doesn't disrupt the flow or match rhythm that the team has been getting into, as Slovakia are by no means pushovers, they have got some very dangerous players, which could hurt us.

Roy is a strange one.
Plays extra conservative with his subs first game, so we draw. Starts with same team for second game, realises he's cocked it up, so makes the right subs at half time. Last group game, we really need to finish top of the group, so rumoured to be making SIX changes!! Risky Roy risky! |

Thanks for the stats Sattega.
Roy's tactics are going to be fascinating tonight. Something tells me we would have thrashed this team if it were a qualifying match but will struggle against them tonight because it's such a crucial game. Sturridge has to start up front. |

I don't mind if Kane still in, I'm still confident he would put a way a chance if he got one... But I think Vardy is more of a threat and will keep the Slovaks on their toes at the back.
Would be an odd call to drop Walker, can't see it happening. |

Could be Walker has been doing the most work up and down the field in the first two games so could do with a break rather than play a third in nine days?

With such a dramatic turnover of players since the last game I'm going for a late Kevin Davies winner.

My worry is that Roy will make too many changes. We are not in a comfortable position that we can give second string players game time to get them match fit. Slovakia by beating Russia showed that they are no mugs.
Rest Kane by all means and bring one of the other strikers in. Also replace Sterling who has been underwhelming and is stopping Rose getting forward like Walker is doing on the other flank. But If Roy starts with Wilshire as some papers are reporting that he is considering, then he will have truly lost it. |

Permutations:
England need a win to top the group and potentially face the Czechs in the last 16; a draw would also see England through but could relegate them to second and a match against Iceland or Portugal, while a defeat could make England a best third side and pit them against Spain or Germany. Slovakia need a win to definitely qualify, while a draw will probably make them at least a best third side; their finishing position depends on the Wales result, which Slovakia must better to finish above them. |

The rumoured changes http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/36514116 are very much in line with my feeling that some of the Spurs players are drained from the work they put in during the season and all of them need a rest as well as with the general perception Sterling has had two stinkers - he will be fortunate to get another game for England this tournament in my view..
Not happy about Rooney not being in the starting line up. Other than that, as long as Sturridge is in the starting line up and Sterling and Stones are not, I can live with just about any team selection which does not involve both Milner and Henderson - one of them okay, both, definitely not.. |

He may as well give the sub goalie a go if he is doing this to give some of the squad a run out.

That's a good point about the goalies. After all, we know what we are going to get with Hart ever since he was dropped by City: one blunder per game, which may or may not lead to a goal. Forster certainly looks up to that, but I'm not sure he can space his blunders out so well; as for Heaton, I have not seen much of him, so I have no view about him. Great shame Butland was injured so badly; I think he is a cut above Hart and Forster.

I fully agree Butland should be our number one goalkeeper once these Euro's are finished, Hart can then be his understudy.

Vardys movement up front is brilliant but we need to start playing him and sturridge now, also it really is time to bring in jack wilshere and leave out the underperforming alli. Wilshere has much more to his game than box to box runs he brings that missing bit of vision and composure Alli has a looong way to go before he can be the next thomas muller lets give wilshere a chance he was our best player during qualification.

Well it isn't as if Muller has ever performed well at a Euro's is it, so Ali is doing just as well as him so far!

If the Guardian is right, shaneomax, you will get your wish,
Rooney is set to be replaced by Jordan Henderson, now fully recovered from the knee injury which ruled him out for a month towards the end of Liverpool’s domestic season, and Jack Wilshere will also be integrated into a new-look midfield three in which Eric Dier is the only anticipated survivor..... Daniel Sturridge and Jamie Vardy, who were introduced at half-time against Wales and scored the goals which won that match, are to start.. https://www.theguardian.com/football...ooney-slovakia |

Dier might survive as we don't really have another true DM in the squad.
