Echoing what others have said..we need to get Hart out from between the sticks..i think he is pretty average nowadays, maybe even a touch below.

Permutations:

England need a win to top the group and potentially face the Czechs in the last 16; a draw would also see England through but could relegate them to second and a match against Iceland or Portugal, while a defeat could make England a best third side and pit them against Spain or Germany.

Slovakia need a win to definitely qualify, while a draw will probably make them at least a best third side; their finishing position depends on the Wales result, which Slovakia must better to finish above them.
Good info. Probably why roy is not obsessed about going for the win at all costs, all costs being some players being heavy legged in round of 16 haivng to play 4th game in 14(?) days.

Must admit I'm surprised how quickly players go from being "dont pick him" to "has to start" in a minority of peoples minds and vica versa. Two good games by rooney in midfield and its disastrous to go with Wilshere instead (hypothetically as i don't know if wilshere is playing instead). And two off performances by Kane and he mustnt play again.

Whoever Roy picks tonight is good enough to beat an average slovakia, and if not he's got decent options on the bench

I think some England fans underestimate the quality of Wilshere.

England have no player like him and he will get England moving the ball more quickly as well as always look forward. His a class act!!

It's a shame a few posters fail to see this and harp on about his injuries and not having a full season unlike Drinkwater.

Looking forward to seeing how he does tonight.

2nd place wouldn't be so bad as we'd face the 2nd place team in Portugal's group (who could be anyone) but be nice to get a win regardless.

Well it isn't as if Muller has ever performed well at a Euro's is it, so Ali is doing just as well as him so far!
dont matter, hes done it at world cups and done it brilliantly, alli is not at his level yet. Wilshere is the better option.

True - we had a tough time against their 10 men and minus Ronaldo in the friendly.

Thanks for that - this isn't a crowd expecting England to end up second in the group ... and neither am I.

The way Ronaldo has been wasting chances, they might be tougher without him. His tournament has been a horror story.

Interesting that it's Russia today filming it... wondering if they're hoping to pick up some yobbish behaviour.

Is their a cam for the Russian fans?

Yes, one of the papers said we seem to struggle against teams which have very gifted players. If Portugal and ourselves win our groups then we're destined to meet in the quarter finals. You can be sure that Ronaldo and some of his underperforming team-mates will be bang on form for that match.

I'm sure I read somewhere Ronaldo had already had 20 attempts at goal this tournament.

Well, he registered one of the most embarrassing misses of the tournament when he failed to convert that pen.

Hard to stay composed and balanced with the weight of expectation of your country on one shoulder and a big chip on the other.

I'm personally thinking (well, okay, hoping) that Hungary will do Portugal and they'll finish third behind them and Iceland. Possible, obviously!

The Albania miss yesterday was far worse.

I guess its true we should be beating a average Slovakia side with the team he is looking to put out. I hope Wilshere has a good game because WE NEED HIM IN THE STARTING LINE UP if we are to do anything decent in this tournament. You know what? I will stick my neck out and say we will 100% win if Wilshere Vardy and Sturridge are playing together. 3 Top quality players will be too much for Slovakia provided we dont waste space on the flanks with Raheem Sterling Id rather have Barkley there. We should be fine. - Provided no Sterling.

Yeah but I expect their players to occasionally miss great chances, Ronaldo as one of the highest paid footballers in the world, I was thinking he'd bury that penalty.

Found the stats for Ronaldo -I was right, he has had 20 shots on goal, more than double anyone else. He has had ten in each game.

There's a table in the article at this link giving the stats for the top ten players re goal attempts.

Going on a pure miss then the Albania one was far worse than the Ronaldo missed pen, what one expects is kind of irrelevant really in that kind of situation.

It's not irrelevant to me. A bad player missing a chance isn't as embarrassing as one that is supposed to be one of the greatest in the world. We all have different opinions, that's mine.

Fair enough then, no worries.
