A lot of angst in here and I'm not entirely sure why. What did we learn today:

- That we'll bully possession against weaker teams
- That we struggle to score goals against teams that park the bus
- That we're through to the knockout rounds
- That we have a lot of average players in the side
- That we have a manager completely out of his depth

In other words, we learned nothing. These are facts that we already knew about England, so we shouldn't act like we're completely surprised. We're just going through the motions like we do in every other tournament, waiting for the inevitable defeat against a team with quality.

the strikers were having to win the ball themselves. midfield was garbage. don't understand all this love for lallana, he's so bad.

Err. It's quite simple, shoot and score, don't pass long enough for the opposition to get behind the ball!!

We were very poor tonight, Billic said it best of all the pundits, as usual they were trying to look for anything at all to spin into a positive, thankfully Billic is the only one there willing to talk a bit of sense.”

Ian wright is pathetic. Never admits England were poor.

Don't take anything he says seriously

This is what you get with Hodgson. I blame the FA for wasting 3 tournaments with this clown.

Same old, same old. Can't be bothered anymore. England might scrape a win in the next round and then go out. Have to say Bertrand was a stand out player tonight. He was dreadful.

Before the tournament began, how many people would have taken five points from our three games??

Just watching the Wales/Russia highlights. Wales played with more passion in 90 mins than England have in the last 10 years.

Believe me, I don't, but it was just pathetic the way he was almost screaming at Billic about the Sturridge chance, which wasn't a chance at all, it was a hopeful ball (as were all of the crosses and long balls), which went straight into the keepers hands, there wasn't even a chance to be had there, yet he was making out as if we made a brilliant opening there!

It is the twisted bias which really gets on my nerves, just trying to find anything, no matter what, which can be turned into anything remotely positive, when we don't deserve any praise for tonight's so called performance.

They always do, which is why I agreed with what Bale said at the time a few days ago, and I don't know why people disagreed with him.

It's stange how opinions can change so quickly. Last week Roy was hailed as a tactical genius for his match-winning half-time double substitution. This week people are calling for his head!

I don't think a lack of passion is our problem. You can see from our celebrations when we've scored how much it means to the players. I honestly think they are putting in the effort and really trying to score, it's just not coming off for them and the confidence is starting to dwindle.

The way Ian Wright was going on about England dominating all three games anyone would have thought we were watching Spain putting on a masterclass .

Tactical genius

What, putting three strikers on because they needed to score

So we are very likely to play France in Paris now IF we win the last 16 game. Cheers Woy.

Exactly, and they all kept talking as if we created loads of chances, we didn't, at best we created three, against a side who did not want to have the ball, and we're on too happy and delighted to let us have it, is just a disgrace really.

How they could question what Billic said I have no idea, other than it must be in their contracts to spin anything into something positive.

Yeah and with the whole of Paris and the country behind them, we will stand very little chance, if any of winning that match, if we are lucky or fortunate enough to make it that far.

We beat France 2-0 last year and we can do that again.

It's Portugal I'm worried about.

Ah well, you said we had little chance of beating Wales and we did so you never know, you might be wrong again!

If we play Portugal, watch Ronaldo score a hat-trick. He always gets us.

I Dont know about the diamond formation but we seemed to be playing the crab formation tonite as everything went sideways or back !! so negative and i feel Hodgson made too many changes ! Sturidge was in 2nd gear all night ! and like a few others on here we didnt want to shoot and as usual in a major competiion we cant score goals !! So slow in possesion aswell !
