I think we all want an end product, but supporting a team isn't like that. Maybe you had years at Utd being used to that level, but most of us dont. We support our teams whatever the end product.”
It isn't a different thing at all, it is one team intent on defending against another team looking to break them down, Germany did it very, very well, whereas we most certainly did not.
Germany hit the bar twice, had other shots that the keeper saved, compared to us, where we had one shot in the first half, and one shot that was cleared off the line, and err that was about it really.
A manager especially at the top end of the game should know how to react and adapt to a team playing defensively, as that is surely one of the things that you get to practice during the exam to be a manager (or in Roy's case since he has been in the game pre-exams, he must have encountered such things during his long managerial tenure).
The Germans recognised what Northern Ireland were trying to do, and adapted accordingly, and very successful they were, we on the other hand perhaps saw what Slovakia were doing, but looked clueless as to what we should be doing so just slung long balls, and poor crosses into the box, even though we don't have any good forward attacking players that are good with their heads.
We did not adapt to the situation at all well.
As for the second part, my club side is irrelevant to this discussion, we ate talking about the national side, so my wishes/aims/desires (delete as appropriate), are totally different.
