Samsung s9000 Turning picture off
I have recently, 11/6/2016, puchased a Samsung ue55ks 9000.
I cannot find out how to turn off the picture whilst listening to the Radio. The large static picture serves no purpose whilst listening , is intrusive, and I understand not good for the screen if left on for hours at a time. I use either the TV speakers or my Yamaha YHT s401 surround system. Turning the picture off was easily done on my previous Samsung ue40f 6500. I imagine i'm missing the obvious but any help would be greatly appreciated |

Just checked the e-manual for your TV and can see nothing for manually turning he screen off, but have found this which may help: Quote:
Preventing screen burn Don't know what the 'Screen Burn Protection function' actually does, it's likely to be some form of screensaver which blanks the screen or fills it with moving images or patterns.
Settings>System>Expert Settings>Auto Protection Time Still images can leave burned-in after-images if left on the screen for a long period of time. Select a time setting from the list. If a still image is shown on the screen for longer than the time that you selected, the TV automatically activates the Screen Burn Protection function. |

Thank you for your interest. The Screen burn protection function turns on a screen saver.
However there is only a choice of -- 2, 4,or 6, hours delay before teh screen saver kicks in so it is not really very practical ! I fear I will just have to find another way to listen to broadasts Many thanks |

I have the JS 9000 where "Picture Off" can be found in picture management. Scroll down, it is the penultimate option. I wouldn't know why Samsung would remove it from the KS series.

What I did on my plasma (before I got a sound system and used that) was to configure one of the screen options (dynamic or whatever) to have the brightness, colour etc turned right down and used that for the radio.

Use a PVR? When not being used for telly recording duties it could be used for listening to Freeview radio. You would only need the telly on to see what channel you are selecting, assuming the PVR has no LED/LCD channel display on the front panel.
Your soundbar has HDMI inputs so that solves the audio issue. Many Thanks Tony P |

There is only one HDMI socket on the Humax used for the TV but I will try the Optical output.

Thank you chrisjr for the PVR idea. I have a Humax Youview box with front display so it is now a matter of connecting one to the other. There is only one HDMI socket on the Humax used for the TV but I will try the Optical output. To be honest the PVR is almost redundant for TV recording. New TV and I player are probably more than adequate.
Many Thanks Tony P The soundbar sucks the audio stream out of the HDMI link and passes the pictures onto the TV. |

You connect the HDMI of the Humax to a HDMI IN on the soundbar. Then take a HDMI lead from the HDMI OUT of the soundbar to the TV. You could also connect another two devices direct to the soundbar via HDMI as well if you so wish. If you are using the ARC function to get audio from the TV to the soundbar you may well have an HDMI lead between them already.
The soundbar sucks the audio stream out of the HDMI link and passes the pictures onto the TV. Have been away for a few days (my 79th birthdy party). Many thanks for your advice re changing HBMI. All working well sound without picture. Just the TV set up to re adjust which I will do later today. Thanks again Tony P |
