A 4 Goal defeat would put Albania above them, and as you say probably eliminated
If this were to happen - which looks a reasonable possibility at the moment - then Northern Ireland would need both Republic of Ireland and Sweden to fail to win and then either a draw between Czech Republic and Turkey OR Hungary to beat Portugal in order to scrape into the last third place spot.

They'll be glad to be only 1 down going in for the ht break.

NI will be delighted it's only a one goal deficit. Germany could have been out of sight.

Best Northern Ireland can do is try to keep it at 1-0 until the last 10 minutes or so then go all out for an equaliser. Definitely don't want to antagonise Germany by equalising too early in the second half - I reckon Germany are in second or third gear at the most currently.

MIchael O'Neill's going to have some big decisions to make regarding substitutions and particularly the timing of substitutions in the second half.

I also don't envy him having to judge how defensive to set his team out in the second half either.

It's just not Müllers day or tournament is it?
As long as it doesn't get as bad as Ronaldo against Switzerland, he couldn't buy a goal in that match.

The difference, for me, is I am expecting Müller to score, but as the game went on I was expecting Ronaldo not to score.

Another terrific save by McGovern!

If Northern Ireland get through this with the required scoreline, he'll be the one to thank.

And Gotze puts the ball wide!

Muller is a results guy - he will perform and he will score. He's not as flash as Ronaldo fans like it, but he's an incredible player.

Remember his comments about the Goal Line Technology at the last World Cup, he is clueless at times.
No. What did he say?

So many forwards in this tournament just not taking their chances. Bizarre.

It's like they have forgotten where the corner of the goal is.

Northern Ireland are having some luck with these constant German misses.

At half time did the studio conversation touch on the famous incident when Neil Lennon head butted Alan Shearer's boot ??

The Germans look like they're going through the motions a tad now.

Has to be said, though, that this has been a dreadfully dull match to watch.

Ronaldo averages 10 failed attempts per match this tournament. I haven't been counting, but it feels Müller must be approaching 10 for this match.

I agree, It doesn't feel like a contest. At least in the first half Germany were into 2nd or 3rd gear and creating lots of chances; this half they have been at England second half pace with a similar outcome. Dull, dull, dull.

Hard to see this tournament breaking 100 goals with some of the poor finishing, shocking crossing, etc.

Germany should be at least 3-0 up by now, goalkeeping heroics or not.

Big gulf in class, can't fault the Ulstermen's effort & work rate though.
