Watched the game in the fan park in Belfast today. Great atmosphere for the most part but the crowd kind if died down a but as the game went on and Germany were just playing out the game. They're great at just suffocating games like that. The finishing from Götze, Muller and Gomez just wasn't good enough though. Their wingers and midfielders were energetic and creative but the goals just didn't come. Huge credit to McGovern for some great saves but that should still have been a 3 or 4-0 to Germany. Northern Ireland didn't offer much. Really, it wasn't too dissimilar to the England game outside of Germany getting the win.
I am really looking forward to the match against Wales. Two small countries who really wanna go futrther forward. I think that it is gonna be a great match to watch. |

Proud of the lads, a good performance considering the circumstances IE. A lower championship side facing a side composed of champions league winners.
McGovern was heroic though. Could have lost that game 5 or 6 nil without him. I thought we were more defensively solid in the second half but it did come at the cost of any attacking threat we had. Apart from Stevie Davis's run! Neutral goal difference should HOPEFULLY see us through. A phenomenal achievement for a country of this size to reach the last 16 of a major tournament. Fully expect us to go out no matter who we face but at this stage, who cares?! Yes, McGovern was putting in the overtime form, but he was helped to a good extent by some great defensive playing. Let us Ulsterboys be honest.....there was no way that we could beat Germany. As you say, it was like a scenario where a Championship team was up against a Premiership team. A good excuse for another bottle of wine for me there/. |
