Looking forward to this, hope it lives up to the expectations.

Let's just hope they can find a home for the likes of Dean Martin on the station

Taken from the stations website -

We only play the greatest hits from the 70's, 80's & 90's.

Then next to it - now playing No Doubt: It's my life from the year 2000.

That's it ! I can't listen to this station now if they are going to break the format & play a record from one year out of the format years ! 😂

I'm surprised Neil Fox has signed up to this. I really thought he would end up on Smooth or somewhere like that

From what I hear on this test transmission it is a very dull format, also the imaging is not for a station for one of the bigest city's in the world. They would recreate the Capital FM sound of the 80's and 90's but their is a long way to go. But these are only my thoughts when I listen to these tests.

He's been out of the game a while for not great reasons. If he loves radio as much as he says he does, I'm sure he'll be happy starting off small. Thames Radio will be his shop window for bigger and better things.

Initially it looks like wall to wall music weekdays with Pat Sharp's Top 10 @ 10 from 10am everyday until 11am which I'm guessing will be recorded.

Neil Fox Friday afternoons & Saturday mornings with Pat on Sunday morning Love Songs

Hoping for much more in the coming weeks, if they are going to try to recreate the Capital sound of the 80's & 90''s they'll need to do a lot more tan what's currently on the schedule

Agree, a station officialy launch with 2/3 DJ's is not enough. And I guess it's VT only....

And about recreating the old Capital FM heydays. I would also like to have a radio station with the same format as GLR these days. That was awesome

Which reminds me: what happened to Danny Baker's new radio station?

So far, it's not only 70's, 80's and 90's. Also a lot of zero's. Too predictable also.

Does not seem to have any connection with the former Kingston Thames radio which beat Jackie to the FM licence which later Jackie gained.
Nation are also due to start a rock/pop station in Sufolk but this is similar to Nation Hits now Swansea bay?

From the RT item Chris Stevens the ex Smooth programmer and now runs Chris Country will be PD. http://radiotoday.co.uk/2016/03/chri...dab-in-london/

They're starting off with zero listeners and significant transmission costs. Where would you get the money from?

Ahmm, advertisers? If not, you better can wait until you have decent line-up with presenters. Do it good, or not...

If you can't afford to launch properly, don't launch. There's enough competition out there, they've got to be unique, and given the quality of Nation broadcasting, I don't think that will happen.

Totally agree. You don't be unique these days with such format. There are plenty stations out there with the same format Thames Radio going to use.

I just hope they have more success than the original Thames Radio that ran out of SW London until they were brought by Radio Jackie for a quid back in 2003

That was a poorly run station that changed its format more often than some change their socks.

I'm listening to the test transmissions. The playlist is as predictable as giving fat Dave a fiver for the jukebox. The last song leading up to news was abruptly cut and it was straight into Welsh headlines.

I'm sure it will improve by launch, but surely their payout software is the same as Wales so shouldn't be so clunky, and if the news isn't tailored for London, they should just drop it. The voiceovers aren't up to much either

Oh look, Abba's on....zzzz

They've just broadcast London traffic, but just like news it has been edited in poorly. Followed by a sung jingle, from a re-sing package (can't remember the original station that they were sung for).

Chris Stevens certainly knows a thing or two about running a decent-sounding radio station on a budget.

But this will be a very different kettle of fish to Chris Country, which fills a massive gap in the market. While the comments in the press release about London stations going national are spot-on, I doubt anyone other than radio enthusiasts have noticed much of a difference - especially as most of these stations still have London news, travel, jingles and ads.

If they want to recreate the 'golden age' of Capital, they'll need a great schedule and promotions that really put them out and about in the city - not exactly cheap.

But, hey, I'm all for a new local station, so I'll give it a shot.
