I stopped listening to that station ages ago ......

I listen to Thames Radio on my Smart TV via the Tune App and it sounds fine! It is processed. I can only assume most on here are referring the quality of the sound via a DAB Digital Radio. But hasn't this always been the case? DAB isn't all that great?

I once read that FM sounded better (more punchy) than DAB?

I wasn't really listening properly but there was a pre-recorded 'Thanks for listening to the Best Disco in Town' type link from Tony at the end of the show. I didn't hear any during the show for the 30 ish minutes I was listening before.

Chris Blumer announced on his Facebook page last week that he done his last show on Nation as he was going to be "waking up London" but was back on Nation yesterday morning.

From what I've heard and from the comments on here this station seems like a right mess.

Assuming Neil Fox's show this morning was voice-tracked, there was no obvious way to tell. In fact, at one point, he punted for requests 'which we might get on before 12', which is a bit naughty.

It was obviously recorded reasonably close to broadcast, as he had a fairly accurate weather forecast and talked a lot about the warm weekend ahead. It sounded good, and very in-tune with London life and the time of day - not a million miles away from the classic Capital vibe they're aiming for.

I wish the station sounded like that all the time.

He'd probably wake up more people shouting from his back garden!

Neil Francis is on now until 6, but using his weekday links in which he says "here 'till 4". Sounds weird, will sound more weird this afternoon after 4!

I'm not talking about the sound on DAB, but only the internet stream. It sounds awefull to me, because they using less processing. Processing streaming and DAB is mostly different. When they use an optimod for DAB and StereoTool for streaming it would be lots better, on stream. Provided that it's well tweaked.

Long way to go. They doing it wrong in all their steps so far right now. Take as an example CBS FM in NYC. They copy the vibe of the old Z100 days in processing, imaging and in appearance. They have Scott Shannon on Breakfast and other well known voices from the past. It sounds perfect.

Yep - agreed, in terms of a radio station aiming to mimmick one from the past, WCBS FM is it! It is trying to replicate the original Z100 sound, and it succeeds at every level.

This one is another example that works well----- Fox Oldies 98.9 WGNY

With respect Erwin if you're listening online (which you obviously do avidly) then this station isn't really aimed at you.

That's not relevant. I give my opinion from what I hear on this station.

Yes, that's one of the oldies stations in the US. But I named CBS FM because the trying to recreate the same sound as Z100 in their hey days, what Thames Radio does with Capital, or trying very badly right now.

Now listening to the Saturday Tony Blackburn Soul Show via Tune in

Would it not be a good idea for us Welsh listeners to put this show on Nation Gold on DAB which covers South Wales. Do wonders for the rajars.

Where are they VT the shows from in London?

I heard Tony Blackburn's Saturday night show this weekend and thought it was fantastic. As I mentioned before, I thought Foxy sounded decent on Saturday morning too.

For me, Thames is rapidly becoming a station that I'll listen to at the weekend but not during the week. Their schedule almost seems to invite that.

I did hear a bit of breakfast this morning, and I thought the localness was a bit try-hard. Chris Blumer was talking about the Stevie Wonder gig in 'London's Hyde Park' at the weekend. 'Hyde Park' would have been sufficient.

Agree with that. Sounded like he used to many years ago, much more upbeat. Really enjoyed the music and style.

Foxy has definitely nailed the voice-tracking now. From what I heard yesterday and this morning, it was pretty much impossible to tell he wasn't live - and there were some nice local references.

He obviously records his Friday links on the day as, on yesterday's show, he mentioned the attack in Nice.

It basically sounded like a decent city station show. If there were more like that in the week, I'd definitely listen more than I do.

They change the TOTH? I don't hear 'from the Top of Chrystal Palace' but I can be wrong.
Soundprocessing still too soft for a upbeat big city station. And still a lot of repeats in the music. James and Sit Down over and over again to name an example.
Other VT's stil sounding as voice over ID's instead of real radio programs (shifts) like the 'shows' from Neil Francis.

The Crystal Palace thing was only ever after the news rather than at the top of the hour - and never used every hour. Not sure if they're still using it.

Couldn't agree more about the 'ID' links. Thames, for me, is basically a part-time radio station. No reason to listen outside of the shows where they've invested in proper presenters. A shame.
