Dean Martin's big announcement is that he's getting an extra hour, so will now be on from 6-10pm, with 60s music from 6-7.

That's great news for Dean

I think going forward Thames need a London studio and I would bring back the weekday evening request show like he did for Global.

shame Tony Blackburn isn't a part of the weekday lineup.

I dont think Tony would want a weekday show. He seems happy enough doing the weekly shows.

Shooosh!!!!

You know how it is on threads like this.......we just pretend that these things are of interest to the wider public, and don't admit on here that in all probability the only folks listening are us.

I LOVE returning to read this thread because it's so analytical and specific.
The forensic examination of a radio station with niche listenership is fascinating!

I listened to Thames Radio only a couple of times after launch and, for me, it was just 'meh', as they say.
Music OK, if predictable, obvious VT-ing and a few familiar voices.
I can, however, always find time for the master, Tony Blackburn, for half an hour or so if I have nothing better to do on a Saturday evening.
(How long before he does a Steve Penk and launches his own channel?)

Dean Martin is doing the afternoon show this week. He's on the website schedule but, from Dean's Twitter, it looks like he's just covering.

Surprised that cover is necessary for VT'd shows - you'd have thought the regular presenter could just record an extra week's worth of links.

I tuned into Dean's first request show on Dragon/Thames. It was great to hear him but, after Gold's pacy show, it sounded rather flat. It would sound so much better if they invested in some beds for him to talk over. The jingle company do them, as they're Wirral Radio resings.

Recorded as live means the show was recorded as if it were live, the presenter stays for the duration of the show whether it will it 2,3 or 4 hours and plays the records.

Tony Blackburn records his show at KMFM in Kent and will record his show as it were live so the process will take 4 hours and Tony will play the records as the shows airs between 18.00 - 22.00 on Saturday night.

Voice tracking is where a presenter would record 30 minutes of links for a 3 hour show and then the music is added and fitted around these links to make the 3 hour show by a computer system.

I thought it was unusually efficient of them to add Dean to the schedule on the website for just one week, so now it all makes sense.

Odd decision to replace Chris Blumer, given that they still have big holes in the schedule from 10.45ish to 1, and 8-10pm. They need all the presenters they can get!

I've had it on since 3. It makes a change from what I usually listen to. Don't know if the guy on was live, as live, or voice tracked. It came across as live. Tony on now and, well, he makes any station sound good.

Have they lowered the volume output? It sounds quieter to me this morning, much like Virgin Radio used to be.

Seems ok today, as a digital station does not really need a processor, but with voice contribuitions from many places and no technical operator presumably needs a well set up processor to ensure levels are constant?

But spending money on promotion of the station must be priority, rather than an expensive processor box.
If few people are aware of it in London, dispite high DAB set ownership, it will not continue long term.
