So people are complaining about the music while the station is testing and not launched?.... hmmmmm

I think people should wait for it to launch before knocking the music and output quality
I do not agree. You may expect that this is it. I make no illusions that it changed by launch in totally different format, sound, imaging etc. On test transmission you hear a sample from how it sounds like when it launched.

Does not seem to have any connection with the former Kingston Thames radio which beat Jackie to the FM licence which later Jackie gained.
Nation are also due to start a rock/pop station in Sufolk but this is similar to Nation Hits now Swansea bay?

From the RT item Chris Stevens the ex Smooth programmer and now runs Chris Country will be PD. http://radiotoday.co.uk/2016/03/chri...dab-in-london/
There is a connection.. Martin Mumford .

The website has now been updated to include they will be playing the best music from the 1970's right to the present day.

Following on from my previous post, I think that the sung jingles *may* be Real Radio re-sings?

It's too broad and nothing special compare with other stations, Heart, Smooth and Magic.

Indeed, so they need to rely on the presenters. Neil and Pat are a good start but to bring something different they need more.

When Gold dropped all their presenters I know that Dean Martin's loyal listeners to his evening request show were extremely disappointed. I think Dean would be ideal for this station.

2 DJ's is not enough indeed. And I look at the schedule and it's only an hour Pat Sharp on weekday mornings. Only in weekends Neil Fox and a 80's and 90's show what is syndicated I guess. For a big city as London it's more like a bedroom radiostation with a jukebox most of the times on air. That's not what London deserves.

I think the Pat Sharp/Neil Fox line up may just be a gimmick to get some publicity. Otherwise stations like these come and go all the time and many go unnoticed.

Interesting idea. The tight rotation MOR retro mix genre is popular as Magic, Smooth and Heart can testify. Presumably they'll launch as the low bitrate DAB+ channel that was recently advertised so it can't cost that much for 32k on one multiplex. Pat Sharp and Neil Fox are probably doing it to keep their names out there as much as anything.

Heart - "more music variety"
Thames Radio - "more music radio"
Magic - "more music less talk"

Talk about riding a tank onto your rivals lawn!

Loads of stations take Gary's shows so certainly not just for Thames.

I had a look at Twitter and noticed amongst current followers are both Mike Read and Daryl Denham.

If so, it's quite useless.

I'm hoping the schedule on the website is a work in progress. It currently has no fewer than 10 hours of love songs on a Sunday - Pat Sharp from 8am-noon, then another 6 hours from 4-10pm.

I see that Neil Fox is also down to do 4-8pm on Fridays. Not sure if that'll just be the same show as his Saturday morning one, though.

I know Chris Stevens isn't averse to repeating shows fairly close together - the Country Top 40 goes out on Saturday mornings and Sunday evenings on Chris Country. I'm actually a regular listener, so often end up hearing the same bits of that show both times.

Any station that doesn't play the same 200 songs ov and over gets my vote. Magic, Heart and Smooth are so predictably boring.

Nothing new for this Thames Radio station, exactly the same but in random order....

I like what they're trying to do, but I've been thinking hard about what exactly made Capital such a great London station - and, from what I've seen and heard of Thames so far, I'm not sure they're really replicating much of it...

- Big jingles with a sense of urgency that reflected the pace of life in a capital city ("from the centre of the city..." etc)
- Slick DJs round the clock, in tune with London life
- The biggest hits of the day, quite a few slightly older tracks, and the odd classic thrown in
- The 'Flying Eye' - actual observations about London traffic, not just someone reading out a list of busy roads
- Marketing everywhere
- OBs and inserts from around the city
- A big commitment to local news and information (including the extended evening 'The Way It Is' bulletin)

I'd love for Thames to achieve what they're setting out to do, though - so I'll keep my fingers crossed. But it won't be enough just to say they're all about London - they'll need to find a way to really put themselves at the heart of London life.
