The decision to put their least well-known presenter on breakfast is an interesting one. I've never heard Chris before, though, so I'll be interested to hear what he's like.

And it seems the schedule is evolving completely independently of their PR, which has so far only announced Neil Fox for Saturday mornings. Still not entirely sure why they didn't get everything firmed up before launching...

Not sure, only dip in and out - if Tony was on it would make a point of tuning in

P.s. Lot of lovesong programs in the schedule. Had Captital FM in the old days also love songs late evenings?”

On Friday & Saturday nights IIRC they did full shows with Andy Wint (aka Captain Love) and Charlie Jordan.

The rest of the week Pat Sharp used to play 3 love songs every morning (Lots of Love at 11) and Martin Collins did 30 minutes of Midnight Magic (presumably dropped before Melody turned into Magic!)

I remember Martin Collins doing a love songs show on Capital, think it was late 90's sort of time, He maybe lured away from Magic perhaps?

I don't remember that at all, I remember Martin did the 1pm-4pm slot from the mid 90's once Mick Brown moved to Capital Gold (about '96 I think)

Paul Phear did a Love songs show late night at weekends about this time.

Sound quality on their stream is still very 'thin and flat'. Hope they fix it when the programs starts. What I know from Capital they had a great and big sounding processing. The sound now from Thames is more for a classical/smooth AC station not typical classic 80's based station.

It was called the Love Zone

Just been listening, and although I don't dislike the music being played, the playlist is no different than Heart's really. (Perhaps not as many current songs).

Savage Garden - To The Moon And Back
Played - 4:26pm

Queen - It's A Kind Of Magic
Played - 4:22pm

No Doubt - Don't Speak
Played - 4:18pm

Peter Gabriel - Sledgehammer
Played - 4:12pm

Fleetwood Mac - Don't Stop
Played - 4:09pm

Taylor Dayne - Tell It To My Heart
Played - 4:05pm

Dionne Warwick - Heartbreaker
Played - 4:01pm

Bee Gees - You Should Be Dancing
Played - 3:55pm

Eurythmics - Sweet Dreams
Played - 3:51pm

U2 - I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For
Played - 3:47pm

I was hoping that a new station for London might play a more diverse selection of tracks.

Lot of repeats also, I hear the same classics over and over also on Thames. Nothing new.

I've listened a couple of times. Not overwhelmed. Not underwhelmed either, possibly just "whelmed" if that is a word. Not outstanding, not bad either. I'm failing to see its USP though- it seems to be a mono version of Magic so far.

not more love songs Smooth, Magic, Mellow Magic, probably Heart now Thames there is only so much love I can handle. not everyone is going to bed at 10.00pm, why cant we have something more lively there are only so many love songs divided into 5 radio stations serving London. I remember the late shows on Capital with Tony Myatt, Mike Allen John Sachs, Greg Edwards they were great might have had a "love feature" but not 3 bloomin hours of comatose radio. anyone remember back seat boogie that was only once a week.

UK commercial radio: thou shalt do a retro hour at either 9am or 10am and love songs at 10pm

The USP is
Quote:
“More music than any other station to get your day started!”

So might indicate VTing (until Fox moves to breakfast?), but perhaps with live news and travel optouts if the playout timing is carefully done?

But think Chill and Arrow may beat it with more music at breakfast time?

I'd quite like to hear 'He's Got Marty Feldman Eyes'

Now who was it that did that one?

Thames Radio is the station format Gold should have evolved into.

Perhaps Global didn't want to overlap with Hearts format too much, but they could well be kicking themselves in 12 months time on a missed opportunity.

I feel they should have got Foxy for either breakfast or the evening show, also why is Pat Sharp not on 10am til 1pm?. After all that was his time slot on Capital so is the Top 10 at 10 live?.

I see they are advertising Foxy's Saturday show which is a request show between 8am and Midday so that must be live as you can phone, text or email. And the first live show it says is this Friday so are they still finishing constructing studios or getting things in order by bringing in more presenters before they start full-time love shows?.

I'd be genuinely surprised if it lasts that long.

That probably wont happen - Even on Nation's stations in Wales, late evening has no presenters, just non stop music (Radio Carms, Radio Pembs, Radio Ceredigion, Nation & Bridge - and those have an FM outlet as well as DAB and don't have huge numbers of stations to go up against!)

I'm surprised they are going for as many presenters as they have!

If you listen online try Sandgrounder Radio from Southport, a great, varied playlist, and lots of forgotten songs. Rob Charles has a show 3-6 on Sundays playing songs that don't get played much on the radio these days, a one hour feature of his Drive on Thursdays, and there are lots of forgotten songs intertwined with the playlist.

Yes offcourse, but whe talking about Thames Radio. Lots of stations around who play a wider variety of classics and with big database, so this is not relevant for this topic.

Mmm, yes, but whe talking about a London station. Stations you mentioned are for smaller towns. You can expect some more programs also late evenings for a big city as London.

Pat will start at 10am with the Top 10 @ 10 then continue till 1pm which was his old slot on Capital.

Not so sure about Foxy being live on Saturday. They are inviting all to leave messages so it could easily be VT'd

I wonder if any of these DJs are getting paid? Where is this company getting the money from? The stations in Wales look like they are run on a shoe string. I have a feeling the likes of Fox etc are possibly more doing it for exposure rather than a few quid for a voice tracked show.
