Seeing as all the rest of the 1960s are bound to be The Beatles, perhaps we should skip straight to 1970.

Possibly, but let's wait 'till tomorrow and see if there are some more members who would like to join. Maybe there are some Doors, Stones or Hendrix fans in later years.
I 'll suggest we'll stick to this format and start tomorrow with the year 1966 and so on in this topic/thread. I hope there wille be more participants to join in. |

I had a mate who was obsessed with Bob Dylan and I know The Beatles loved him, so I downloaded several of his early albums. I'm afraid I found them all unlistenable! I saw the Don't Look Back documentary and liked most of the songs as they appeared in the film, but they completely lost their magic when transferred to the album – Love Minus Zero in particular. I don't know why I've never seen anybody mention how John Lennon's Working Class Hero was a blatant rip-off of Masters of War.

Taken as a series the Beatles produced the best run of albums of all time, but individually there was usually something around to edge it - cept for Revolver. |

[quote=bspace;82845624]Well not really cause whilst 66 is Revolver, the Beatles best album IMO, in 67 The Velvet Underground released The Velvet Underground & Nico which is one of the most influential albums of all time.

It was a qualitative shift in the construction of pop music; the album is both an artistic and commercial success and a huge influence on The Beatles musical peers (The Who, Ray Davies, The Stones, The Beach Boys etc.) and you can still listen to it now and it sounds great. |

For me it would have to be Rubber Soul. Though The Stones had a good album in Out Of Our Heads. It was not until Aftermath in 1966 which was their first "proper" album. As Out Of Our Heads is still mainly comprised of cover versions.

Orange Blossom Special by Johnny Cash, amongst my favourite Cash albums, exceptional in concept, production and delivery.

Maybe is was better to change the word 'best' into 'favorite.......but I don't know how to fix that in the thread title.......anyone ?'
Ok, let's do the Year : 1966 ! Revolver - The Beatles edit : although there are some song on it I don't like, this is the record from'66 I often listen to .... Second I 'll go for the one from The Byrds ,called The 5th Dimension althought there are some weak(er) songs too I think. |

So many great albums from 66, Pet Sounds, albums by The Sonics, The Seeds, a great Mamas and Papas album as well as John Mayalls Bluesbreakers album. The Monkees self titled though as of now is the last one I played, 2 weeks ago and as pop albums go it's a perfect example, theme from the monkees, I wanna be free, last train to clarksville, a perfect album.
