Flat Peaches

Called into the supermarket this morning and saw these, never seen or heard of them before, they looked strange to me I always think of peaches as being round and a bit furry not flat.
From what I have read since you can get flat nectarines too.

Anyone else seen or heard of them

Or any other flat fruit.

Flat peaches have been around for some time now. Never have seen a flat nectarine though

I've only just come across these. They're ok - crunchier than regular peaches.

Doughnut peaches I think they are called. They are OK but not as juicy.

They're a darn site easier to eat though. They are lovely. Lidl have them about £1.29 for 6 or 8 of them.

They've been in the supermarkets for years, and whenever they're available i get them over the round kind because they're in a more convenient form-factor and tend to taste better.

Flat nectarines are less common but my local Tesco had some last year (they currently only have the flat peaches on special at £0.69/pack but the nectarines usually arrive later than the peaches).

That's what they are called in my local green grocers too and when I got some last year they were delicious and really ripe. I then bought some from Tesco and they were had as rocks and never ripened.

The ones I tasted were hard too lol. They were sweet though.

Has anyone tasted fresh, ripe figs?

They're still a bit out of season. September / October is the best time for fresh figs. Ripe figs are very awkward though - there is literally only about 24 hours between perfectly ripe and starting to get mouldy.

On the other hand they don't go that dry mealy way that normal peaches sometimes do.

I think they're from Iran, originally.
