The game will also be broadcast online at ITV Hub and on BBC Radio 5 Live and talkSPORT.

13 previous meetings between the two. Italy have 8 wins, Ireland 2.

Italy are now unbeaten in 12 competitive games under Antonio Conte and have only lost 2 of their 23 games at the group stages of the Euros. They have also kept a clean sheet in their last 4 matches.

Ireland have yet to make it past the group stages of the Euros and are winless in their last 7 matches at the Finals. They have never scored more than 1 goal in a European Championship match.

Republic of Ireland have it all to play for, with Italy facing Spain in the next round I wonder if Conte will rest players to avoid injuries.

I can see ROI winning this one.

Might be a strange game if Italy play the result tactically and try to lose by more than 2 goals and if Belgium win they'll be top with Italy avoiding Spain. Lots of ifs though.

Italy have the group won whatever they do as they go by the head-to-head between sides before goal difference.

Ahh I see, I thought it was goal difference and then head to head. Thanks.

Can see ROI winning as well then with Italy already top with nothing left to play for until the knockout stages.

Permutations:

Italy have guaranteed qualification as group winners.

The Republic of Ireland must win to go through as a best third side.

It's head to head results so Italy are playing Spain .

Ireland having to go for it means they are ripe for being picked off comfortable Italian win

Yes, it's a tricky one. Best case scenario for Ireland would be if it's 0-0 after 70 minutes and then perhaps hit Italy with a late winner.

An awful lot of people besides the Irish and the Swedes and Belgians will be on tenterhooks this evening.

The Turks will be as they will miss out on the final best third slot if (I think) either Sweden or Ireland win.

The Welsh and Northern Irish fans will be too because if Sweden or Ireland edge out Turkey for that final spot, Wales and Northern Ireland will meet in the last 16 - but if they don't, it'll be France v Northern Ireland and Wales v Turkey.

Can't see these matches being exciting as the 5pm kick-offs. Ireland are pretty drab and Italy only do what they need to do.

I predict a draw. And the ITV commentators saying how amazing the Ireland fans are about 50 billion times.
