It is not as if the other set of Irish fans are any less of good bunch.
Yes but they've all been banging on about that Will Grigg song over there.

It was funny seeing the Italian fans looking gutted after they lost the game

Maybe facing Spain in the next round will cheer them up

I am sure that the other set of Irish fans will teach them a fair few songs!

What point is he trying to make......that the Republic's supporters are not "real" fans?

They've all see our fans singing non stop in the games and loved it.

There's hundreds and hundreds of tweets like this one. https://twitter.com/matthieu_sorin/s...82505009926145

They will see that the Republic have lots of songs, and they will see that they are just as great as the other Irish lot.

Atmosphere was very flat for a lot of the game earlier. They'll need to step it up.

Oh they will, especially with the Henry factor!

To be honest I think the French still hold a bit of a grudge over what happened pre match in 2009 with the Irish supporters doing a better job at the French anthem than their own.

You must have been watching a different game to me then, it was bouncing from the minute the anthems were played.

The French holding a grudge

The only team that should be holding a grudge is Ireland over the Henry handball that stopped them from qualifying for the World Cup

I dont think the Irish fans have forgiven him, so we might heat some boos when they play the French anthem

Whatever about Henry, Irish fans would never boo the French anthem and certainly not the anthem of the host nation. Not entirely sure the players will see it as a grudge match either, virtually none of the current Irish squad were in Paris that night bar Given, O'Shea and Keane and it's unlikely those three will even face the French on Sunday.

Late to the party, but what a fantastic result. Was in work whilst the match was on but managed to find a tv for the last few minutes and indeed saw the winning goal. Had to resist the urge not to let out a scream. Pretty gutted I won't get to see the match on Sunday, but will hope for the best.

The entire performance was superb. They were on the front foot throughout and never stopped driving forward.

You still have to beat what is put in front of you, and those Italian players are still good ones.

You really think they would have won if it had been the 1st or 2nd match?

No one can say for sure either way, but of course it would have been harder if say Buffon was in net.

Reading the comments in Gazzetta dello Sport, that's not how Italian fans interpret it. They think the Italian XI played poorly and very disappointingly and that it was a fine performance by the Republic.

Italy were awful and I really hope that it's because they had nothing to play for and that it's not how they are going to play against Spain

People keep talking about it being virtually the Italy reserve team but that's ignoring just how positively the Irish played. They came charging out of the gate and were on the front foot throughout. I've no doubt whatsoever they would have had a right go at the Italian first XI and caused them all sorts of problems.

I'd still think Italy may be able to beat Spain though.
