Think this will be a tough game. Iceland will park the bus and we'll struggle to break them down.

Obvious and fair prediction

Huge relief from the pundits on TV. Its only Iceland! 300,000 people or something LOL.
.
Personally I think this might be huge banana skin in the making for England, I actually think Portugal would have been better, because the players would have been psyched up and into 'battle mode' knowing they are playing a good team, Ronaldo etc.

Now they'll know they'll just take it easy, relax. Cakewalk 4-0 or something.

England do near-embarrassments well, remember Cameron 1990? Apparently Howard Wilkinson called that "a bye" before the game.

I don't like these games where England are expected to thump some mickey mouse team, who are also unbeaten so far.

All the pressure on England for this one, surely they aren't going to mess it up against...Iceland!?

If they screw this up they'll be the laughing stock of the tournament, and will probably surpass their defeat to the USA in 1950.
What utter Anti English Rubbish

What utter Anti English Rubbish
It wasn't designed to be anti-English, more so anti-English punditry/press, which I do find quite funny in these tournaments sometimes.

Rational headed people will take any England win (I think that's most people here). Although I'm sure there will be some find a way to slag England off, if they get a scrappy unconvincing 1-0 win.

Despite being in the Quarters, it will be DROP KANE, SACK ROY!! ENGLAND ARE USELESS!!

The pundits were reacting to the fact that it went from being Portugal (whom England have a terrible record against) to Iceland (who ARE a small nation in uncharted territory), i dont think its unreasonable to be pleased.

It won't be an easy game but at this stage given the teams left its decent. If you can't beat Iceland you dont deserve to be progressing.

Iceland have the same record as us in an arguably harder group.

It's a hard game.

Still, the upside is that Iceland are my sweepstake team.

Yeah but I think people are reading into that too much.

They have a terrible record against Portugal, but that included the three times they played Portugal in 2000, 2004, and 2006, when they have Deco, Rui Costa, Figo, Nuno Gomez. That was dubbed Portugals golden generation, a far cry from today.

They're an average side that are yet to win a game.

Agree, there is nothing to fear in Portugal, they will get knocked out by Croatia and tbh I would have fancied England against them as I think it would have been an open game, aside from Ronaldo as you say they are average these days and are poor at the back as shown today.

It'll be tough, but it's certainly fair to prefer them to Portugal. Our defence hasn't really been tested yet and I'd much rather not have them tested for the first time by the likes of Ronaldo and Nani.

There are certain games you just don't expect to go well - and England v Portugal in a major tournament is one of them.

They should still be a tougher match than Iceland. That is a fair comment.

These Iceland lads have been playing together since they were young and know each other's game inside out. In some respects there more like a club side with no big time players (maybe apart from Gylfi) and work tirelessly for each other. I can actually see them taking us to extra time but I'm hoping we'll have enough quality in the end. Although I may have to move out as the Mrs is Icelandic...

I agree with you here, this current Portugal side, is no way near as good as those that went before it.

They got some exciting young players coming through though. Problem is they'll peak after Ronaldo has probably stepped down from the national side.

Yeah Sanches will peak in a few years, shame really, as at the moment Ronaldo is still their main threat, they could do with a few more options other than him and Nani.

We need an early goal which was lacking in the other games.

Probably be 1-0

Yeah the first half an hour or so will be key in dictating the tempo of the match, get a goal during that period, and that changes their gameplan you would think.
