I'm no fan of the Premier League comprised of 70%/80% foreign players but England beat the group leaders .

Most of the England team are vastly over rated by the English media. When they play in their club teams they are surrounded by better players from other nations ( approx three quarters are foreigners) and so look better than they actually are. When they are put in the English team they sink to their natural level and give the performances we have seen in this and other tournaments.
Add the fact that the manager is not that good and we see why we produce the football we do.

I am English, an England fan, but after all these years of under achievement by one of the highest paid national teams in the world I am losing the faith.

Have you watched the games? We've played attacking football, created chances, and dominated all three. The only downside is we haven't scored the goals to ge tthe wins, but many have suffered that fate so far.

This is a young side, with most players playing their first tournament. How are they vastly over rated by anyone?

No easy games once it comes to the knock out stage.

This tie is a win win for me. I'm delighted all 4 'home' sides are through, so if England do the business, fine. But I'm also a sucker for an 'underdog' and was v pleased that Iceland also progressed so if they come through it....again fine!

I am Welsh, though! (If we lose after already exceeding my expectations by topping the group of course I'll be hugely disappointed, but a small consolation will be NI in the Quarter Finals.)

That's what teams in a relegation battle often do and it just makes things worse, better to stick with the best players and hope they come good.

England should win this surely....?

Surprisingly England comfortably lead the way for successful dribbles at the group stage.

Other tournaments are irrelevant. I think England have performed pretty well in all 3 matches so far, it's just a lack of end product right now that is the issue, and that can change at any time.

Hogdson should play 2 strikers up top for this game instead of the lone striker he keeps trying to persist with. Sturridge needs to be further forward and more central along with kane or vardy alongside him. Thats the best way for us to break that defence id play alli rooney and lallana in behind them. With dier holding at the back of a diamond. Iceland are going to park the bus, make no mistake.

Iceland will sit back and defend properly so it'll be similar to Slovakia in many respects. We should therefore learn some lessons. Is Vardy effective when there is no space to run into? I'd rather have Sturridge up there with three behind who can work in tight areas - with two central midfielders holding the fort. THe three could be Lallana, Alli and Rooney for example with Dier and Milner/Henderson holding. Add the attacking full backs and that's plenty of options. Against Slovakia some players were too deep and Vardy was ineffective met with a wall of defenders.

Iceland are an organised, spirited team and may be harder to breach defensively than Portugal would have been. However, if we get the balance right and dominate as we did against Slovakia, we should win - Iceland do concede goals.

I think that is part of their problem, most of the squad like to dribble and pass the ball in rather than a couple of players who can cross the ball in the danger areas, like Aaron Cresswell or Marc Albrighton.

The squad isnt balanced, too many of the same types of players

England beat Wales and got more points than N.Ireland and Rep.Ireland but yeah sure England are the worst team in the Euros from the British Isles. Rolleyes

For Iceland this will be their final and with all the emotion flying around their cool defensive play will start to unwind. I predict a comfortable 3-0 victory for England.

I think England will do well against minnows as they usually do. It's the big teams they are afraid of. I see doom and gloom for the quarter-final against France

And he said (interspersed with bits of Norwegian)

Nothing to do with being afraid, and why are you constantly England bashing? Who do you support?

Every team is at a level, and England are better than most, but not as good as some.

He's making the point that Byork would be the name that our commentators will be screaming when we give Iceland a hell of a beating!

CLyne played so well in the last game he can also play left back.. Id really be tempted to drop danny rose and slot clyne in at left back but it might be too late.

Why do so many English people delight in kicking the national team?

To be fair, when it comes to tournaments, the post is fairly accurate.

Not if it's muttering, mumbling Jonathon Pearce.

And "a hell of a beating" remains to be seen.

I wasn't serious about how I think events will unfold, just pointing out what the poster meant.

Not serious?

Not serious?

You do realise that football is a more important issue than life or death don't you?

Ask Bill Shankly!!

What would be nice is if the England fans start singing Björk's "It's Oh So Quiet" to the Icelandic fans if we score. Spread the word - let's do this...
