Iceland, Northern Ireland, Republic of Ireland, Switzerland, Hungary, Portugal. Obviously Wales and Slovakia are excluded for being in the same group.
And you still don't know what favourable means. What under Roy have you seen that said, yup, we can beat those teams?? |

Seems slightly strange for the poster above to effectively espouse the view that this defeat was both expected and embarrassing.
Usually you'd think if everyone really wanted to play England as the easiest pickings of the last 16 then the headlines this morning would be about us bowing out of the tournament gracefully after this defeat having given it all we had, rather than such comments as "Ice Wallies". We were 1/9 with the bookies to qualify weren't we, if not, we were massive long odds on shots. I don't really see how Iceland who are in their first tournament and qualified for this stage from a comparable group to England's would be branded clear favourites to beat us. |

Well ano major tournament with ano predictable England exit with an even more abysmal performance from the manager and the players than usual.

What under Roy have you seen that said, yup, we can beat those teams?? We played very well in pre tournament against Germany, France and Spain. I still say we played well in the group games, but last night was woeful for whatever reason. I'm capable of seeing where we stand, and dont go to these extreme, that you do, that if we are not world beaters, we're rubbish, and the worst team in the draw. That is just crackers. Last night, the whole team lost the plot, their heads went when they went behind. They panicked, and it just got worse with every mistake they made. Basic technique, that they are quite capable of, disappeared. The pressure totally drained them, and that is a failing that needs to be addressed, but they are all good players, and can play well as a team. Most of them haven't played tournaments before, and many have not played in the CL. They "bottled it", as the saying goes. The pressure from the media, and many of our supporters, like yourself, who only see great, or rubbish, add to this. Hopefully these young players wont suffer as a result of what happened last night, and they can become the best they can. I hope they get support from their club fans, and do not suffer constant abuse. |

There's been so many incredible stats from the Iceland team. I believe every Icelandic (male) citizen eligible to play for the Icelandic national team could have fit in last night's stadium...or that Iceland has more active volcanoes than professional footballers...or that the manager is a part time dentist. Absolutely wonderful.

When Cov had Gunnarsson we were briefly linked with Gudmundsson too, I was all for that. There seemed to be quite a few Icelandic players in the Dutch league at the time, not sure why there's a particular trend that way.

Huge relief from the pundits on TV. Its only Iceland! 300,000 people or something LOL.
. Personally I think this might be huge banana skin in the making for England, I actually think Portugal would have been better, because the players would have been psyched up and into 'battle mode' knowing they are playing a good team, Ronaldo etc. Now they'll know they'll just take it easy, relax. Cakewalk 4-0 or something. England do near-embarrassments well, remember Cameron 1990? Apparently Howard Wilkinson called that "a bye" before the game. I don't like these games where England are expected to thump some mickey mouse team, who are also unbeaten so far. All the pressure on England for this one, surely they aren't going to mess it up against...Iceland!? ![]() If they screw this up they'll be the laughing stock of the tournament, and will probably surpass their defeat to the USA in 1950.

For Iceland this will be their final and with all the emotion flying around their cool defensive play will start to unwind. I predict a comfortable 3-0 victory for England.

On the bright side the English team will be heading home to their mansions, wags and sports cars and will still be the among highest paid footballers in the world. They really don't have to care it as long as the big bucks keep rolling in.
give the championship players a go at least they'll play with more heart |

I wonder if Danny Drinkwater did watch in the end. Do you reckon he would have been smiling?

Are we know going down the route of wondering if x person was watching the game?
I wonder if Sol Campbell watched the game? Do we think he was smiling after the game? |
