Hope you've recovered from your operation and aren't getting to stressed out by online scrapes! Oh I intend to come back fully and perhaps haunting sometime next year. I just felt a rest and break was needed. I decided to pop in for a brief type of visit today and was a bit shocked at some of the stuff on here. This forum seems less busy than it used to be and that tallies with what I've been told about some people being put off by some of the stuff, Alas there's still some of the decent stalwarts from all sides of political debates like your good self still here.
Try not to get yourself banned or into any forum meltdowns before I return lol!

I've missed you and other's too. As I mentioned to you in a chat on another thread I felt I needed a break from the pressure cooker and somewhat insanity on here for a while. My enthusiasm, zest and interest was all gone. Sometimes a bit of fasting increases ones appetite.
I decided to pop on today and post after reading a couple of threads.
Couldn't believe some people's attitude towards people dying since the vote. I think the OP's thread in itself was legitimate for discussion IE the poli potential headache of a possible remain majority by the time brexit completed but some of the comments where damn right shocking and nasty. I hope all remainers don't get tarred with that.
As someone who has worked in the care sector I struggle with the idea of having a mindset or attitude towards ill people or patients based on their politics.
Goodness my dad, a favourite uncle and cousin and others I'm close to voted brexit. Some of whom are in precarious health. I'd hate the thought that some of the attitudes displayed on here where shown to them by remainers in say the NHS or a care home etc. It's not a good road to go down, in some ways dangerous just because of a political vote.
Imagine if it was reversed and Trump supporting health workers had this attitude to elderly or ill Hillary supporters in the USA? We'd be rightly appalled and outraged.
People need to be careful even when they feel legitimately politically disgruntled.
As for Labour -won't vent my full spleen now but I feel if Labour had a decent leader now then a hung parliament would be a good bet for the next general election but alas their in a very weak way at the moment.

There may have been some accuracy the problem we all have is that we were taken into the EEC then the EU on a tissue of lies and deceit. At least we have eventually got our referendum on the EU that we were promised twice, and asked for three or four times. Perhaps the current tissue of lies and deceit is just evening out the balance. We also have to remember that the Remain camp were certainly not paragons of virtue when it came to over-egging the pudding.

The EU facilitated much of what the Conservative Party wished to do, which is to turn the UK into a cheap labour sweatshop.

I'm aware of the decline of the empire and our failure to sustain it. Despite that, I'd suggest there's more than a few of the old Empire nations who rue the day they decided to seek independence only to have it turned over to corrupt dictatorships.
I think you may be unaware of the coffin nails provided by the EEC which the Wilson government made an only partial success of negating.

Totally with you on the corrupt dictatorships, i don't doubt that the majority of African ex empire members were more stable back in the day, their people better off in a lot of ways, but not free. They aren't free now but that was their choice.
Surely the Suez crisis was the final nail for our pretence at still being a superpower. Most plans for independence were planned well before '64 When Wilson came in. I remember him winning but only vaguely, he didn't feature much in the Hornet or Victor, my reading material of the time.
