Thought it best we have a new thread for the new season

The latest news has really made me happy. This is going to be good. Cannot wait.

Death in Paradise is shooting in London for two episodes this coming series.

"We are very excited to be bringing Death in Paradise to London for the very first time," executive producer Tim Key said.

"Humphrey has always been a fish out of water in Saint Marie, adjusting to the island's ways and customs, but for the scenes set in London, the roles are reversed as he is back in his hometown, giving an opportunity to explore the characters that viewers know and love against a new backdrop."

Thanks Carl. I didn't know it had even been renewed.

It is a bit of a guilty pleasure - looking forward to more Sally as well.

Spot on, the BBC can't even try to show commitment to good tv anymore.

Well, maybe a little bit of a change and a different perspective for a while wouldn't be the worst thing.

It won't be about "saving money". It will just be doing something a little different in that they're reversing the original 'fish out of water' premise.

They gave the show a sixth season. How the hell is that not "showing commitment to good TV"?

Well, maybe a little bit of a change and a different perspective for a while wouldn't be the worst thing.
^ Exactly this.

Hmm.. I'm delighted it's returning but the main reason I love it so much is to enjoy the beauty of the location. I can almost imagine the heat of the sun and the brightness of the skies no matter how dull and damp it is here. So 2 episodes in London does not thrill me in the slightest.

I wonder what part of London they'll use? I will still watch it although I really like it set on Saint Marie. I love cosy mysteries and also having the wonderful scenery to look at is a bonus.

They are not showing commitment by trying to cut costs on a popular drama. That's not showing commitment.

And how do you know they're cutting costs by doing this? Perhaps they're doing it so they can spend some more money elsewhere in the budget. You don't have a clue so please stop pretending you do.

Besides, they wouldn't have to cut costs anywhere if they hadn't had their overall budget slashed by some 25% or more since 2010.

OK, maybe it is, but why don't I feel like it is a cost cutting exercise.

Sorry, I'm probably just bummed out one of the few shows I genuinely must watch is another seemingly victim of the BBC making cuts from my viewing whilst others carry on without any alteration

Isn't a lot of it filmed in the UK anyway?

It might not be any cheaper as they'll have to find new filming locations and possibly build some new sets. They'll probably end up with a bigger roster of guest stars as well.

Imagine being a guest star looking forward to two weeks of paid work in the Carribbean only to discover your episode is being filmed in London.

I think it's all filmed on location but I might be wrong. Bringing it to London could be interesting, I can see why Humphrey might be called back, but would he bring his "team" with Him ? Doubt it., still, looking forward to it.

I doubt it, very little seems to be done in a studio and it would be expensive bringing the actors to the UK.

Didn't Camille go to France when she left, any chance of her appearing in a London episode?

I'm probably getting confused, I remember reading about a programme where they filmed stuff in a studio then decamped to somewhere exotic for the rest of it. Not sure what show it was though... Wikipedia says the police station in DIP is an old church hall so it seems I'm wrong.

Oh please! There is nothing, nothing to suggest this was anything other than a good idea for a story; ie to flip the premise on it's head. I am actually surprised they didn't do it sooner.

So, it's death in London now, not death in the beautiful caribbean island
Might give it a go,, The exotic locations were the best thing about it

For crying out loud. There's 2 episodes in London. The rest of it is exotic location as far as they eye can see. I think you'll cope!
