But, these things doesn't bother me. It's just a fun, light crime drama set in a beautiful place.

Without a spoiler, I do ask myself how often have they used those plot devices in DIP, I can think of at least two.

Rather uninspiring start for me. Looking at some of the previous posts seems to suggest that is sacrilege for some reason.

OK, as a drama, the plots do leave something to be desired, and the acting - more often or not by the guest actors - can be a tad wooden BUT DIP is still one of my "Must See" shows. It's a bit of lighthearted fun, totally inoffensive, and the scenery is gorgeous. I don't want to be watching heavy dark dramas all the time.

Truth is DIP gets by largely for the fact we like the cast and scenery, at a time when it still gets dark around 4pm, and the central heating is on.

It isn't an all time great, but I'll be tuning in next week as usual.

Nowhere near as good as the original 2 series, still worth watching though for the scenery (as well as Florence ) but still missing Camille.

I remember the thread here for the last season. So many complained (rightfully so) that it was always the ones who found the body who were guilty.

We've noticed it's often the most famous actor who dunnit - so if the most famous discovers the body, the mystery is instantly solved!

True, but Humphrey has grown on me, and it's mindless entertainment. Cranium free mindless entertainment, let's just give it that and enjoy it.

What else can we say that about? Sherlock is mindless, but he's a pompous git and I hate it. We still have Midsomer Murders here across the pond with Tom and Ben, and that show rankles but is good background noise.

I didn't like Miller, and do miss the gecko, but there you go. I'd LOVE to have Humphrey's shack on the water, don't miss Camille and the BS romance they started, don't miss Fidel even if J.P. has an annoying voice, glad Dwayne's britches weren't too big for him, and realize the murders are stupid and the summaries are straight out of Poirot.

Who cares. It's a fun ride.

Agree with both of you entirely. The setting alone is enough to get me to tune in - and Dwayne, who I think is brill

Still safer to go through the whole performance as if it was real. You'd be surprised what you pick up from that distance!

It would also not fit in with the premise of the show; ie a murder. (Unless I misunderstood your point?)

Right. It's poorly acted with weak plots... yet it regularly in the Top Ten shows on the channel. Go figure!


So they should have randomly introduced the [spoiler]... what... last season? One assumes they didn't know someone was going to write a story involving one! Or perhaps we could just play along and not over-think it too much? They might even end up with a school we haven't seen before in the next episode. You going to complain about that too? I assume it is rather a large island with lots of places we haven't yet seen.

Yes - we still need to work out how & why, that's what keeps us watching.

I am sure that would not stop them as someone else would probably be murdered as well - the island must rival Chicago for the number of murders per head of population!

To be fair, it's usually only one per episode,

Conversely Midsomer Murders, gets multiples every time.

What amazes me, is the number of new Midsomer villages, hamlets etc, which have been introduced over the years, as the scene of a murder.
It gives me the impression that that Midsomer must actually be the size of the county of Somerset, or maybe even Yorkshire.

But it was only last season they used the same 'twist'? And it's not like they do 30 episodes a season. You'd think they could wait a couple of seasons before resorting to the exact same 'twist'.

Lazy writing if you ask me.

Maybe it's an area half the size of Wales.
