I have to say the ROI looked completely outclassed.

It would have been a complete travesty, if they had won.
Over 90 minutes?? They looked the better side in the first half

They had a very sloppy eight minute period where they conceded two and a red card. They probably showed their inexperience and naiviety there, I think both those goals were defendable.

I think the Irish threw it away a bit to be honest. Yes, France improved considerably in the second half but it was just as much sloppiness from the Irish allowed them back in....those two goals could have been stopped.

For the first French goal, there were seven Irish defenders in the box......really just naive defending rather than brilliance from Griezmann

I thought you played well in the first half but when you lost the goal and the second one behind it made it a struggle

I think O'Neill and Keane will secretly be a bit annoyed. Ireland were in a great position to take the game to penalties minimum but suffered a ten minute defensive collapse (similar to what happened in the Belgian game). Going forward, they're going to have to get that defensive line sorted out....they've made a lot of mistakes at this tournament and conceded goals they shouldn't have.

We've to wait 24 hours for that (and I don't mean the Icelanders)

Gutted for ROI. First half they were brilliant but eight minutes of madness cost them the lead and indeed mentally destroyed them - the players just collapsed after it and never looked like getting back into the game.

They've done themselves proud though. I'm from Northern Ireland but proud of every player from the whole island - already gone further than anyone gave us credit for.

The ITV presenter said he would be less known

Martin O'Neill needs to get his back line sorted out, they made the same basic errors here as they did in the Belgian game.

Overall though, a great tournament for both sides and they showed tons of spirit and commitment to the shirt

Stoke played some decent stuff last season! And no, I don't support them...

Who do you support? Wild guess....you're English.

Plucky defeat for the Irish - we will probably do the same against the French!

Ireland were unlucky today as France were poor in the first half

But you have to hand it to France they played better in the second and fully deserved their win

I think the Irish will be disappointed they didn't take it to penalties at least. If you're leading a knockout match with 30 minutes to go, you would be thinking of extra time minimum. Unfortunately they lost their heads for that eight minute spell and got a man sent off too.

Great effort though and they took the game to France from the very first minute.

All the international versions of Stoke did was put the ball into the box and see what they could get the football was awful to watch both very lucky to make it as far as they did.

Not true : Hoolahan's goal against Sweden and Brady's goal against Italy came from open attacking play (and they created many other such chances at this tournament in a similar fashion)

You couldn't beat a dreadful Sweden team Belgium taught you a footballing lesson you only just beat Italy because they had the B team out, and you got a dodgy penalty which never was and you still lost.

Yeah, I'm calling England fan.

Not fair, really. As someone who was pleased all four 'home' sides got through the groups, found this forum q friendly...apart from someone who wanted Wales 'battered' and 'humiliated' against England and another who said we'll get stuffed once we play a decent side like England. Which was a bit odd considering our results against Slovakia and Russia compared to....England's. Confusing. Almost enough to make me support Iceland!

That's nonsense. The Irish team played positive attacking football in three of the four games and didn't even resort to set pieces in order to create chances - the only negative and defensive performance came against Belgium.

And losing 2-1 to the host nation in the last 16 is hardly a shameful or humiliating performance or result, is it?
