Brilliant from Giaccherini, only bettered by the save from De Gea.

Couldn't have gone much better for Italy in that half.
Only consolation for Spain is that they're still in the match at all thanks to de Gea. |

Italy have all the players with pace, but are also playing the game with more pace. Spain seem to have no players with pace and are very slow in their build up. Too easy for Italy to defend.
On balance, goal aside, de Gea has kept Spain in contact in this match. Silva has hardly touched the ball. |

Excellent half. Italy have been fantastic so far and deserve the lead, probably deserve more than just the one goal.

Italy are so well drilled - every player knows what his role is in the team and if somebody makes a mistake the next man is ready to get him out of jail. They are pressing Spain high up the park because Spain simply don't have any pace up top. Add to that Italy will also attack in packs Spain don't seem to know whether to stick or twist at times.
Spain have been so methodical and ponderous it is unbelievable the difference between the two teams and it looks like the end of an era for some of this Spanish team. |

Tactical masterclass by Italy. But they also look a yard faster all over the pitch.

Spain have upped the gears. This could be one hell of a half coming up.

de Gea again!
Other than the goal, the man just cannot be stopped. Pique should count himself lucky that his attempt to pull back Eder did not work because he would've gone if it had. |
