About sums you up to be honest.
They have a good record, and did actually contribute to the excellent wins they've had of late.
Who do you actually support, or do you just slag off England?”
I support Italy, but I want England to do well, although I am always amazed at the maddening incompetence of English coaches. I have been saying Hodgson is a nothing manager for years!
In my view the two most important components to the success of a national side are (1) a a good manager and (2) a good goal keeper. England usually have neither (I thought Sven was the last good manager England had).
The reason I said Germany should show England how to beat Iceland is because Germany NEVER lose to minnows at tournaments. Small teams just don't exist for them, not because they are individually stronger footballers, but because they are always incredibly well-prepared.
They are not like France who are individually so good that they just turn up and beat Ireland on individual quality. The Germans study their opponents meticulously and ALWAYS have a game plan about how to beat them. Iceland's strategic genius could never catch Germany by surprise. When you have a strategy, the superior individual quality of each footballer then plays its role, but organisation is key.
Slovakia looked like a tough side to break down when they played England, but Germany just walked all over them because as I said, small teams can never intimidate Germany. Even in the dark days of the terrible German side of 2002 under Voller, they managed to crawl to the WC final by beating minnows (and having a great goal keeper).
And if you think the German press wouldn't destroy, humiliate and totally pulverized the Germany team if they lost to Iceland, you are very wrong. The British press is terrible, but this England performance deserves all it gets.

That's erroneous thinking. You underestimate the key role of a manager. If Conte can make a team whose most creative player is someone who wasn't good enough for Sunderland play a strong Spain squad off the pitch, I'm sure a manager could devise a strategy to get a team of decent Premier League stars to beat Iceland.
Look at rugby. Last year England were humiliated. The team hasn't changed, but the manager has and he put players in their correct positions, added some organisation and strategic thinking and they are suddently beating everyone.
I can bet anything that Low would have taken the very same England squad to the semi finals.
