Is it really so bad to be labelled a gameplayer?

I don't get it?

What are they in there for?

Much of last night's programme was based on that. Surely anyone in a game is a game player and wants to win.

I think it's the point of the show, to play a game and outwit your opponents. I don't mind game players at all.

I know. On the face of it, there's nothing wrong with it because, as you say, Big Brother is a game and everyone who enters wants to win. Simple as that. I suppose it's the underlying suggestion that said 'gameplayer' is not being genuine and is not to be trusted.

BB says: "The GAME has changed"
Therefore it IS a game.

The housemates are participants (ergo players) in BB's game, therefore they are all "GAME PLAYERS"

What the HM's are getting all worked up about is that one person may have a better strategy to win than they do !!

Therefore if they call Jason anything it should be "shrewd player" or "strategic player"

Slick and Rex took pride in the title

... and they were great housemates

The old original rule from 2000 about being in for the experience is the ultimate accolade , which none of them are

Nick and his antics still mean being labelled a game player is the worst thing to be called nearly a generation on

That is the problem with BB.
It was never meant to be a game, but rather a test of character and endurance while living with people of different characters in an isolated and restricted environment while every move you made was watched live by everyone.
This only works when everyone behaves as themselves and they do not adopt a personality which they think will ultimately give them the win . Or if not that, some measure of notoriety they can use in the future.

This behaviour adoption has led to it becoming a game, where HMs are not necessarily being themselves but are playing parts they think will be good for their images, or winning potential.

So now it is a game, the HMs are playing parts to a greater or lesser extent. Nothing is really as it seems.

I yearn for the original, but it would be nigh impossible to bring it back to its original almost naive simplicity.

Exactly. BB has become a game show and so they are now all gameplayers whether they like it or not.
It would have been far more of an insult to be called a gameplayer back in the good old early days.

You're such a gameplayer Moomin. Pretending not to know why it's so bad to be called a gameplayer.

I don't see why game-playing is seen as such a negative trait on BBUK. Big Brother is a gameshow. There's a prize fund of £100,000 cash for the last person standing at the end (the winner) and they're all competing to win and get their hands on that money and title - therefore they're all gameplayers i.e they're playing the game.

I would say even Craig's reaction to Nick's game playing, was in itself bit of gameplaying.
He was desperate to win (for good reasons, I might add) and I am sure he knew that by taking control the way he did would make a positive impact with the viewers.

Right from the off it was an elimination contest, 10 people being whittled down to 3. Then a 'final' - then a 'winner' who gets 70,000 pounds.

It is a game. It was always a game. It was designed to be a game.

The gamesplayer's cleverest trick is to convince us that he is not a gamesplayer..

Ask Alex when he gets out. He refused the game player podium and eventually the twins let him have his way.

Was Rachel from BB9 the first one to be called a 'gameplayer'? I don't remeber it as a thing in the early days?

I disagree, convince the other HM's he isn't but not us. I enjoy the characters that admit their game playing on camera to us but disguise it in the house.

Who in this house is faking sincerity do you think?

Jason?
Sam?

I feel the word Gameplayer has lost meaning on this show as people are quick to label anyone each year.

There isn't really anything wrong being a gameplayer. Because this show is a game.

To us outside the house it shouldn't matter at all, but to the HM's, they would struggle to trust a game player.

Exactly.

It's just that in the first series most people may not have seen it as that, though no doubt some such as Craig and Nick did. Since then I'm sure most HMs have realised it's a game.

But it's hard to believe that much of the audience are still living in denial. And over the years another game has been played out, the manipulation of the audience by BB, with much of the audience willing participants.

But on the topic of the game being not to appear to play a game. If that's the only game people can play then that would be very boring. It would also be impossible without fading off screen totally. Strategies like showmances, alliances, setting out to be a particular type of HM have been obvious for some time, and have often seemed orchestrated and promoted by Big Brother anyway.

People who want to pretend it's not a game and go around making chav responses to the show look foolish and really I think are seeking to compensate for their own insecurities.

They are all gameplayers because they are in a game. BB puts out the 'gameplayer' question because much of the audience wants to deceive themselves. But they are just being played by BB themselves.

Perhaps "gameplayer" is used as an insult because it implies that the person being talked about desperately wants to win and that is seen as something terribly "unBritish"
