Get iPlayer is a bit of a misnomer as it provides more than just iPlayer material e.g. ITV programs. Also, it's not particularly techie to use - unless it's because I use it on a Mac and it's more complicated on Windows ? It often is the case that the Windows version of something is more complicated to set up. I find it amusing that this is the case with Microsoft Software - the Mac version of things seems to "just work". .
You're confusing get_iplayer and Get iPlayer Automator.

get_iplayer is a command line utility for Win/Mac/Linux and it hasn't supported downloading from ITV in years. GiA is Mac only and has a GUI.

Er, you're not supposed to keep copies of tv progs ''forever'' under terms of tv licence, and defeating copyright protection using Foxy is a ''bit naughty''. However, no real problem if you're just ''time shifting''. Although, don't pass on the copy to anyone else, especially once outside the uk ........

I've probably made this sound far too complicated. Basically, any pvr which allows u to copy Freeview recordings off the hard disk is fine. That particular model of Humax just allows defeating ''copy forbidden'' as well. Since bbc increasingly uses copy protect on sd films, as well as the simultaneous transmitted hd version. Then, many pvrs record to hard disc in a similar way, with a video.ts file, (most of them use linux based software). Which can be played directly on most computers, with vlc player. But for mobile phones, conversion into mp4 video format is best idea, since this standard format is easily playable on nearly all of them ........

The trouble with internet tv is, mostly individual files have copyright restriction built in, whereas, a broadcast tv receiver depends on the receiver itself to stop u accessing the files ! So, yes you can download via iplayer, but then need the app on your computer or phone, and have only a limited time to watch before you can't ........

I've never understood this copy protection malarkey. I have a quad HD TBS 6205 tuner running on Windows 10, and can copy, edit, transfer any SD or HD Freeview programs without restrictions or any clever tricks/software.

Mind you, that tuner cost me about £170 . . .

Yes, you are right. That is exactly what I'm looking for. Don't want any fancy facilities, just look like an 80's VCR but recording to disk.
Hi, I use EyeTV on the Mac (not sure if it is Windows friendly too). It's a USB dongle with an aerial socket and built in Freeview decoder; the software works exactly like a VCR. Record something, set a timer or series link and it will happily live on your computer's hard drive for as long as you want (I have archives from 10 years ago in the same way I hoarded old VHS tapes). Optionally you can also specify that it automatically converts the proprietary file to an iPad/Apple TV friendly format. As I say I've used it for years and wouldn't be without it now. Oh, and if you do feel the need to stream stuff remotely or indeed set remote timers, that's available too.

Check it out at https://www.geniatech.eu/eyetv/
