Talk about rewarding failure, he hasn't been too good in his last few jobs, no thanks to him.

Not convinced that smart won't be treated with suspicion in football, although being one of the boys would help that somewhat.

Hiring Hiddink wouldn't be rewarding failure, it'd be because of his history of doing well at international level. Name the contenders with a spotless record, by all means.
I'd rather (if I was English and in the current situation) have a manager who had some successes and failures rather than someone with no discernible success to speak of. He's respected, calm, he can steady a ship for a couple of years. Whether he could handle the hysteria that follows the job around I don't know but I'd give him more chance than any other names I've seen. I sort of doubt he would take it though. I wouldn't, in his position. Poisoned chalice. |

But, he's not been in the failed set-up and doesn't have any negative baggage as a manager. If he didn't work out we'd be no worse off than where we currently are, so we're not exactly risking much. Someone as bright as Lamps, might just be the one who can settle the lads down, get them relaxed and able to perform for the games that really matter. |

If the F.A give Southgate the job, the players that finished the game against Iceland, will be starting in his first match in charge. He wouldn't want to rock the boat. |

I think it might be a personal challenge for Low to make something out of the England team.

They have to have had some connection, so being one of the "boys" shouldn't count against him.

England needs a manager that when he walks in the changing room the entire team lose control of their bowels.

If we're going foreign I'd actually take Hiddink, Blanc, Bilic. Klinsmann for some reason I just can't quite take to. No big reason, just a hunch.
I can see few English candidates but I'd be more than happy to have Hoddle back in charge with perhaps Gareth Southgate and Eddie Howe as his backroom staff. Last time England combined results with creative, inventive football seemed to me to be in 1998 and they were a bit unlucky not to make the quarters in all fairness. |

So maybe thats what England need at this moment Do you think Hoddle would have played Roooney in midfield And picking a squad without a winger |

And picking a squad without a winger Whether he'd have picked a winger is a leap into the unknown save for his being an advocate of wing backs and 3-5-2. Maybe he'd have had his hand forced by a lack of decent centre halves and could have tried Eric Dier as part of a back three and gone for three other central midfielders instead. All complete guesswork on my part. |

Southgate's not into the idea of taking over for any length of time by all accounts. Wise move if true.

Southgate knows that the public dont want him and he will be torn to shreds if he takes it. At least he doesnt have the arrogance to take a job which is clearly out of his depth, even on a temp basis.
