Do you think everyone in whatever job should be sacked if their religious beliefs offend someone ? For example, Stephen Crabb is a tory candidate and could be the next prime minister. He is a devout christian who has campaigned for years against equal rights for gays and against gay marriage. He is basically a homophobic bigot, but he gets away with it because its his "religion". This bigot could soon be running the country.

Hoddle managing a football team is small fry in comparison. Hoddles religious beliefs, no matter how wrong they sound to me, are no more crazy then someone else saying that when we die our souls all go and live on a happy cloud above the sky or if we are bad we go and spend eternity in fire and hell. Its all poppycock to me.

I'm guessing they know more a bit more the game than the actual people tasked with finding a new manager and certainly more than any of us in here .

They played very well in the friendlies over the past year, including beating Germany and France. They played well in the first three games here, and they've all played well for their clubs.

They are inexperienced, and young, and that maybe contributed to the disaster against Iceland, but to write them off as hopeless is just going down the same old route we always do, whoever the manager is, and slaughtering them all the time does not help confidence.

Playing well in friendlies is what we always do and then when it comes to the crunch we fail. That's the cycle we have to change, young or old.

It proves they can play well though, and any game against Germany is serious for both sides. The mentality certainly needs attending too for tournament play, and this squad has plenty of time to get it right.

Hopefully enough people will support them, rather than continually abuse them, which is of no help at all.

I'm not denying that all religions are complete madness, far from it. But you cannot have incompatible beliefs, and state them, when in certain professions.

Imagine for instance Hoddle was a primary teacher, with a disabled child in class. During parents evening he expressed to a parent that it was his belief, based on nothing but illiteracy and a lack of education, that he thought their disabled child was being punished by God because they were evil in a past life.

He would be immediately suspended and then sacked.

Of course, Hoddle should have been sacked the moment he suggested a use of a faith healer. The man is a vile, backward thinking embarrassment to the game.

They know a bit about their profession, as most of us do about our own.

To be honest you probably will do as good a job, we haven't had any success in 50 plus years, with any of the managers...so whoever gets the job it really is irrelevant, because we are not going to win anything.

No, and nor did Hoddle, but religion gives people these beliefs, and we cant just sack people who support such beliefs. That example is way beyond what Hoddle said, but many religious beliefs will look stupid when said out loud.

He apologised at the time, and lest face it plenty of famous people have misunderstood their beliefs, and looked fools at the time. Cat Stevens got in a right mess, but learned more as time passed, yet some people still hate him.

You seem to have a strange irrational hatred for Hoddle. You do realise that the bible itself mocks the disabled. Therefore anyone who follows the bible must agree with that view (amongst the other ludicrous things in it). Do you want these people sacked from their jobs ?

What is success? Simply winning a major tournament? There is no wonder we have this eternal grief when the bar is set at that level, and anything less is deemed a disaster.
