Allardyce, Hoddle, Pardew ... I would prefer Manuel from Fawlty Towers.
As for Klinsmann, can people not imagine how our xenophobic German hating popular press would react to a German manager of England? And do they seriously think the lily-livered, spineless FA would be prepared to confront such prejudice when their entire existence has been premised on evading responsibility, passing the buck and avoiding taking any decision which might in any way make them feel uncomfortable or challenged. I'm old enough to remember their scandalous, cowardly failure to appoint Brian Clough as England manager and I don't believe the FA has changed fundamentally since then: its first criterion for an England manager is someone who will not rock their boat.
Who do I favour? Someone who knows they can only succeed if the FA has a clear strategy, agreed with the Premier League, about the changes needed to make the England national team a serious contender for contesting the finals of the main international tournaments. Anyone who believes their own appointment, without such a strategy, can transform England's performance at the World Cup and Euros should be rejected as yet another fantasist subscribing to a model that has repeatedly failed for 50 years.
