For me I'd like to see either gary neville or southgate.

Don't really want a foreign manager again although Klinsmann has worked wonders with the USA team.

Someone who's not going to follow the same path as before. Someone who picks players on form, not name. So basically nobody who's already part of the current England set up.

It appears the FA are only interested in people who have a media voice, who can criticize them. Its laughable. The FA should be disbanded, they are like Fifa in microcosm.

I wouldn't be hugely chuffed with the idea of Shearer but when there are few outstanding English candidates from club management I have to ask why not go for an ex-player?

I genuinely don't believe that some form of club career readies you for International management any more than having been an oft capped International footballer does. Would Allerdyce, Pardew etc really have more knowledge of International and tournament football than an 80 times capped footballer who has the respect of the players for his on field achievements and at least knows what is required at International level? I think you could make a case.

Many nations have gone down this route, Beckenbauer, Voller, Klinsmann in Germany. Van Basten in Holland, you could name loads. I'm not saying it would be an automatic success or that it always works but I feel the requirements of International management are sufficiently different to club football that a figurehead ex player working within a stable decent set up is certainly worth considering.

Well at least Shearer did say he'd like a go but that's probably until he sees the pressure the job brings)

Redknapp and Hoddle have said no I think for example whilst I don't think Big Sam will be any rush to leave Sunderland..

For how long is that Newcastle period going to hang over Shearer if he genuinely was interested in getting back into the management circus once again, be at club level or international level??

At least he was brave enough to accept that role, it is not an easy task being a manager at any time, and that period I think can only have benefitted him in terms of it being a learning experience, that he can use in the future.

If he really did want to be the next England head coach, then when looking at the other possibilities, in terms of English options, then I would not be so quick to rule him out.

Presumably, since that time at Newcastle, he has got all of the available badges (I don't know if he has or not), if so, then I don't see any major cause for concern if he were to be appointed, any more so than anyone else, as until the actual system is updated, whomever is in charge will continue to be a tad hamstrung anyway.

Better for that person to be English, then someone not in that case I think.

I'm in the same camp as batdude. I wouldn't rule Shearer out either.

I'd be happy enough then with a support staff of Rio Ferdinand and Eddie Howe.

I've said elsewhere Hoddle would remain my first choice but his time at Newcastle shouldn't be held against him.

Redknapp has said no in that kind of 'they'd never want me anyway' way he does in order to get sympathy. Poor Harry, so hard done by.

His time has way passed him by now, no matter if he were interested or not, by all means look to use him in a similar capacity as Hoddle, as part of an overall review as to what needs to be improved, but he should not be near the thinking of who should actually be the next permanent head coach.
