It wouldn't surprise me if it was Wenger in a years time.
Just please no, it is bad enough that he is a media darling as it is.

The media are happy to remind everyone how Arsenal haven't won the league in years and have a habit of choking.

Wenger would be a fine choice but he would have to come now.

There is no way you can appoint a "caretaker" for a year with any credibility. The England job should be better than that. To say nothing of the problems there would be if the caretaker happened to have a year of good results and performances, what happens then?

TBH we cant really judge on the next years games, they will be relatively easy opponents just like the Euro qualifiers, whoever is managing will be lulled into a false sense of achievement

Yeah, he looks tailor made for England ..........

I reckon Big Sam is the man........someone who's used to taking poor teams and getting them up the league

That's what England need

Exactly, no one will know, but if a caretaker has won his games which is very possible it would be controversial to then get rid.

Is there a single reason why a caretaker is even being talked about?

Usually at this level you only appoint a caretaker if you bomb out of qualifying for the tournament and there are still games to be played.

It was being mooted on the basis of Wenger being interested but unwilling to break his contract. Would be monumentally stupid though.

Wenger would be a better choice than Southgate.

Looks like it could be between Big Sam, and Klinsmann, not really ideal, but then the pickings are somewhat slim.

Isn't one of those opponents Slovakia??

Not quite so easy opponents for us it would seem!

Relatively easy was what was said, and that's true.

Fair enough, yeah the other teams (Scotland included) should be games where hopefully we can get a few victories.

Wenger would be a better choice then either Big Sam, or Klinsmann, but he wouldn't be what I would call a "fine choice", he would just the least worst option for us.

And we should beat Slovakia home and away. The evidence to suggest we can't is nil. We beat a team even in this abortive tournament who had just beaten Slovakia.

I partly agree but least worst option is marginally harsh.

Well it seems to be Sam Alladyce and Jurgen Klinsmann at the moment

I know, it does fill you with great confidence does it

Allardyce fills me with confidence.

His teams would have beaten Iceland.

A Sky Sports Germany presenter was interviewed on Sky Sports News and he seemed to be of the opinion that he wasnt a good tactician
Sounds ideal for the England job then!

Well we aren't very good at the passing game/did it too much in the wrong areas (ie - in our own half when needing a goal)

Maybe its time to be a bit more direct and attacking?

People reckon Big Sam might suit the job if he can sort the defence out but would he be the long term answer?

Anyway I doubt Sam will be getting it..

I hope we are more direct under the next manager.
We played our best football in the first half of the first game against Russia.

Walker was excellent down the flank.

Sod possession. Sixty five percent possession doesn't count for anything if you don't score.
We can't play intricate little moves around the 18 yard box.
It was attempted. It was feeble. Ridiculous flicks and back heels. Shocking.

If you're going to play Kane and Vardy, get down the wings and get the ball in the box.
Play to our strengths. Let the opposition have the ball and look to break.

Just look how well Gunter performed for Wales.

Oh for the days of power and pace and overlapping full backs.

As for the next manager, can't see an Englishman in the job, with the possible exception of Hoddle. Poison chalice, anyone?
