Well, I would be happy with Big Sam

At least we'd know how to defend as a unit

If we can stop letting goals in , it certainly would be a move in the right direction

How's he going to do that, the international breaks are too brief, then they go back to their club, playing the way they do there. Just because he can do it with a club (although that is debatable) doing it for the England squad is a completely different thing.

I just think that a big problem with England teams is trying to fit the 11 best players in by playing some of them out of position

I think Sam would instigate a system and select players to fit it even if it meant upsetting some of the more high profile players

Like most managers that have been successful, he has a record of building his teams from the back

Might not be the most entertaining football to watch but then again a lot of successful teams aren't

The Portugal fans seem quite happy this morning

The next England manager will never drop high profile players, never.
Which will mean a completely unbalanced team.

Rinse & Repeat.

When someone previously suggested Gus Hiddink you shot it down by saying it's rewarding failure because he hasn't won anything in a while.

And then you nominate Michael Laudrup. What's he done recently that puts him ahead of Gus Hiddink? Wikipedia tells me he won a league and a cup double in the 14/15 season in Qatar.

How did Laudrup end up in QAtar?
Thought he had a good rep and reasonable record in management...
Chasing the dollars I suppose.

Qatar does seem an odd place for him to end up, and at this stage in his managerial career. He could do much better.

He's probably just being well paid.

Not like he wouldn't be getting a healthy salary in Spain or England though.

What reason is that for? Why does having an unbalanced team appease the FA? Surely it's in their best interest that England have a balanced team that has more chance of winning.

When people say high profile players they mean Rooney generally and playing him in any position in the starting line up..

Appointing an England manager who's career win percentage is just 33% would be laughable.

England's win % in the last 4 tournaments is 26.6% ....................if Big Sam could get it up to 33% that would be an improvement !

And don't forget, a manager who has won absolutely nothing, nothing at all.

His current win percentage at Sunderland is 29%

Do we also forget the allegations of corruption and taking bungs too?

What is his experience of managing top players? Oh yes, that's zero too.

I'm seeing a lot of talk about who shouldn't be England manager, but very little about who should be.

Remind me how many minutes the "undroppable, high profile" John Stones played at the Euros?

Considering that he's never been found guilty of those allegations, then yes, we probably should.

It has to be a person with a successful managerial track record (that means winning things)

And a person who has managed in the last 12 months

With no track record of racism, corruption, drugs scandals, hate crimes, bungs, infidelity, using prostitutes, assaults, threats of violence, injunctions, super injunctions etc

You have no desire to list your own choice - simply to discredit and rubbish everyone elses discussion.

i have placed in this forum many times my method of selection. Start at the top and work your way down.

im not trying to be negative, but is "big sam" with a win percentage of 29, who has never managed top players or won anything, ever, really the best we can do?

The other alternative seems to be Hoddle, who is worse than big sam!

You won't name one person...if people disagree then so what, but who would you go for?
