If you are a supporter, you do support your team through thick and thin. That's how it is. If you can swap teams to whoever is doing well, you're not a supporter.

I support Spurs, and we haven't won anything for years, but I cant suddenly decide to support Chelsea can I?

New breed of side-switching football enthusiasts, what a time in our lives.

If someone wants to switch sides, fair enough, but that is not something that I could ever do myself.

If you stop supporting a side because you don't like the manager, be it for club or country, then you weren't a fan in the first place.

But its simply not true.

You can be a lifelong labour supporter but not vote for them because of corbyn

I'm a ghostbusters fan, but im not going to see the latest movie etc

When you know something is wrong, and its going to go pear shaped - like it was clear when the FA appointed Hodgson, why not voice your opinion. Change channel until it gets better - thats what i did.

I dont want Hoddle to be next england manager, i could not support anything that person is involved in, even if he managed chelsea. I wouldnt start supporting arsenal or spurs but just watch the PL games and enjoy the football until chelsea came to their senses.

If your sister is dating a bloke who is horrible to her - you try and convince her to dump him. Eventually you cannot do any more. When they come to their senses you can be there for them, it doesnt mean you stopped loving them in the meantime or make you any less of a sister!

Big Sam will be great. I hope he gets it. I have started a thread in the general football forum.

You pick a team and you stick with it for life including the shitty times, them's the rules.

there really are no rules.

this is not about chnaging sides, but about withdrawing your support whilst a disaster is going on.

i could never watch, support or pay money to see anything that Hoddle is involved with. Thats my choice, and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that.

Be funny if the Journos still related to him as Big Sam, I'm sure most of us England fans will.

Despite his critics I'm not really hearing about any other credible alternatives to Sam especially considering where England are right now.

None of those comparisons are relevant.

You support a team, and they are your team for life. If you are able to swap to another team, you were never a supporter, and that is obvious to any football fan.

You dont support a team based on who plays for them, or manages them.

Did you hate Hoddle when he was at Chelsea?

When it comes down to it I probably will still support them, my head says to give up but my heart may well win, I just wont have much expectation, I guess I wont be disappointed that way.

There is. You're not a supporter, and we can all see that. Dont pretend to be, and preach at those who do support their team. Stick to your club side, until something you dislike happens there, and then move to a new team that suits you.

Most football fans support teams that win very little. That's what supporting a team is all about. You support them. You can have a moan at times, but dont base those moans on unrealistic expectations, which is what happens with England.

And the fact they see nothing wrong with it really is staggering.

amazing isnt it.

I make over 10,000 posts, 90% of which are about chelsea. I follow the team all my life, get to games when i can and always wattch the games no matter what, throwing money at sky and BT to do so. I put up with sexism and horrible attutudes because i dare be interested in a male sport.

And yet suddenly, because i refused to watch roy hodgson's team at a tournamant whilst at the same time watching every second of every other game, im "not a supporter".

Its proposterous.

You're the one who claims to support England, but you haven't done for the last two tournaments, and you only will do if certain people are not involved. That's not being a supporter.

Do you apply the same criteria to Chelsea? What about when Hoddle was there?

Nothing to do with sexism, all to do with your words.

Will you stop giving examples about things that have no relevance!!!

We aren't talking about family members or the labour party and by the way if no one changed the way they voted elections would be pretty pointless. You cannot change your football team and you can't change your nation either. However you can lose a bit of interest but if you do that in the bad times you have no right to celebrate the good times.

I do recall this poster saying they'd stop supporting Chelsea if Brendan Rodgers became the manager. So, yeah, they probably would do that if Hoddle was there.

Im not changing my football team, all im doing is not watching them (england) whilst that clown hodgson was in charge. Look at how people feel about him now they have seen through him. I did that years ago.

Hoddle would be an unmitigated disaster and a disgrace, after what he said and tried to backtrack on, he is lucky he has a job in the media at all. I could not bring myself to watch or support anything he does.

Not withdrawing your support is one of the big rules.

Of course these are not binding and people can do whatever they like, but if someone isn't supporting during the rough, they're just leeching off the smooth.

All the managers england have had and still nothing to show for it. Surely there comes a point when you start looking at the system its self. Like Stuart pearce said about bringing players through instead of just promoting them straight into senior squad.

Its quite a rather odd attitude really.

is there any situation where you would not go to games, not watching them on tv, not renewing a ticket?
