Greg Dyke did say in the past they wanted an English coach but he is leaving so that might change.

Pardew or Big Sam wouldn't fit the role for reasons above so probably will be Southgate.

Random team generator programmed in MS Excel. Just wheel in a PC into the dressing room before the match and let it pick the team.

Can't be worse than everything else we tried.

Gareth Southgate leading the early betting on being the next England manager, currently at 8/1!

Who's your money on to get the job? Gary Neville looking tempting at 10/1.

Full list =>http://www.paddypower.com/bet/football-specials/manager-specials/Next-Permanent-England-Manager-4984795.html
The top contenders after the early dusk has settled from yesterday:

Gareth Southgate 6/4
Alan Pardew 7/1
Eddie Howe 8/1
Gary Neville 10/1
Alan Shearer 10/1
Harry Redknapp 12/1
Manuel Pelligrini 12/1
Brendan Rodgers 12/1
Laurent Blanc 12/1
Guus Hiddink 16/1
Sam Allardyce 16/1
Glen Hoddle 16/1
David Moyes 20/1
Arsene Wenger 20/1
Slaven Bilic 20/1
Martin O'Neill 25/1
Michael Laudrup 25/1

Southgate still leads the pack.

A depressing list.
Have to agree! I think it's not a case of who's best for the job but more a case of who's least worst for the job! A lot of failed club managers on the list the be the next successful England manager!

I surprised Bryon Robson not on the list

The Iceland manager
Or even the manager of my local Iceland store.

Can't do a worse job than Hodgson.

Sam Allardyce would get our defence organised

May not be the prettiest team to watch, but someone needs to sort out how our team plays without the ball

Yes but give him another go
He said some things about disabled people which seems to have been forgotton

He's a massive bell end for not utilising le tissier and is a useless co commentator

Old and out of touch for me - give it to big hoof it 1980s style Sam or Eddie Howe - not a 60+ geriatric like Woy of the Wovers

No matter who it is, they'll get us to the World Cup, we'll do badly and the country will be up in arms over it and calling for the managers head.

It's clear our league isn't the best in Europe (it's debatable if it ever was), we don't produce players that the top clubs in the top leagues in Europe want and even in our own league we tend to send our English kids out on loan and into oblivion. Once we shift that into gear, then find a manager who will make the squad into a team, and we the fans stop thinking that just because a team is from a small nation they can't possibly beat us, then we can move forward.

Yep....give the job to Harry. If he'd had got the job last time we wouldn't be in this position

The Premier League is an international Television League. Maybe be we should source all our players for the England Team from the Champ or League One.

He'd tear them a new one if they played poorly also. I wouldn't mind someone old school like him, anyone is better than Roy.

Someone who has some passion on the sideline and passes the McClaren Umbrella test. When you need a goal with 30 minutes to go you don't sit there doing a crossword. Especially when there are no leaders on the pitch to get the team fired up. It's like they were all out for snooze.

Maybe it doesn't matter to them enough. Certainly comes across like that. Pay the manager and his assistants on performance, and if they won't take the job because there's no massive pay cheque up front they're not the right people.

The pundits and callers on the radio this morning seem to mostly be in the Hoddle / Redknapp camp. No one wants Southgate, Pardew, Fat Sam etc !

Hoddle or Redknapp would both be as bad. Redknapp has zero tactical nous for a start

That's what's required, I'm afraid.

England players aren't very bright so they need "fear of failing the manager" to perform.

Its terrible really that there isn't an English manager mentioned who would inspire great confidence, if given the England job.

Redknapp was ok until his attention was distracted by the strong possibility of getting the England job.

Allardyce has the edge over him as he's been a manager for the last 10 years whereas during that time Glenn Hoddle's spoken about managers on TV.

I'd go for Howe working alongside Hoddle.

Why not Rafa Benitez.

He is a great coach, he has won major trophies around Europe and can be classified as English as he has lived here for years.

Can't the FA, UEFA and FIFA give Alan Shearer special dispensation? He might not have all the badges but he always knows where the England team are going wrong when I see him doing his TV punditry. Surely that would translate into success on the pitch.
Being a pundit is easy being England manager is not.

For me the outstanding candidate is Allardyce, he's always succeeded at club level and he gets the players performing above themselves rather than under performing like England do.

Hoddle was the best manager England have had in recent years but he's probably been out of the game too long.
