we all know the barrel is scraping, thats why the FA interviewed steve bruce!

its ridiculous that people are falling for allardyce being the best man for the job.

if all the jobs in the PL were available, which one would he get? Sunderland is his level.

For reals, Del Bosque was one name definitely mentioned and I think codeblue said that Hiddink wouldn't have been a bad choice too, small chance I might be getting people mixed up with that one though.

Considering the ranting aimed at everyone else with a pulse I thought she would be shouting her own choice for manager from the rooftops.

It is very easy to be critical of a decision of this nature, a lot harder to try and actually think of alternative names.

Its easier for some to criticise the choice or the views of others than to have the courage to suggest your own.

I think alfamale has at least when challenged made some valid suggestions above if you went the non-English route.

or we could be extremely critical of a manager, not want them, and the minute they are appointed change the tune overnight?

The decision is final now, it is Big Sam:-

Take a look at @England's Tweet: https://twitter.com/England/status/7...411560449?s=09

I look forward to seeing the first big decisions he makes, such as his assistant, and who his captain will be.

There is also a press conference to announce him on Monday at 11am.

Read the thread for the names, stop asking people to repeat themselves

Maybe I could find the post where Codeblue offers her alternatives if I didn't have to wade through all the axe grinding posts that fill the thread.

Might take me a few days to do that mind.

In many situations that's true. But most certainly not in this one. Throw the names of every manager that finished in the Top6 of EPL, Serie A, Primera League and Bundesliga in a pot. Chuck in one or two from smaller clubs that might have made Champs League Last16 stage and straight away you've got a list as long as your arm of more suitable candidates than Bruce and Allardyce

What you have there is a list of people who won't want the job realistically. Why would you leave a top European team to manage an international team? If that was your criteria you would find yourself down to the lesser names quite quickly.

But its fair to ask how many of them were actually approached. There's 24 people give or take and it'd need every single one of them to say no before you got down to Allardyce. Its been suggested Wenger was offered it but wanted to see his contract out at Arsenal and as the FA couldn't wait Allardyce was the next cab off the rank.

If they've said no then so be it but lets not have them saying Allardyce was always "the man" without any of them being asked.

Well Hart and Cahill would be next but they aren't exactly in form England or club wise!

Rooney is always the scapegoat in these situations though.

Hart should be nowhere near the first team, nevermind the captaincy!

Smalling or Cahill maybe, but that is the thing, there are not many other options other than Rooney really, so whilst it maybe very easy to slag off Rooney, and say that he should not be captain, it is a little bit harder to think of replacements for him.
