Far too much time is wasted on talk of who the captain should be. It's a peculiarly English thing to place so much emphasis on who has a bit of nylon around their arm. Sven and Capello seemed a bit taken aback by the press interest in it. Do it game by game and don't make such a huge thing of it.
One of the last decent (although woefully underperforming) England sides was in Euro 96 who had about 11 club captains in the core 14 players. Only Gascoigne, Anderton or McManaman were not. Its hard to recall if Adams or Shearer were captain and who was in 1998 as neither played any differently. Then you had Pearce, Neville, Ince plus Platt, Southgate, Seaman, Campbell, Sheringham who were all leaders and made the choice of captain a little redundant. They should be trying to install that. |

Let captain be whoever is oldest or has most caps or scores most goals in training or has the nicest smile in the pre-match photos, it's a giant distraction that wastes everybody's time.

Don't pick a permanent captain and you don't have a dilemma about dropping anyone, plus it'll stop people making it a needless talking point in future. Two birds killed.

Are Germans automatically disagreeable in your world?
With their national team they have got things right by overhauling the youth system when their team was worst than ours And it took them at least ten years for their youth system to produce a World Cup winning team I dont know why we cant copy the German and Spanish model on how to create a decent national team, when we know it works |

The Germans that I've met are some of the most down to earth people.
In terms of superior...of course they are when it comes to football, a different universe! |

It's about as racist as saying a Dutch person is from Holland.
"No, but Germans always think they are superior to us, as they think they are right all the time" Swap "Germans" with another demographic, like "Males" or "Females", thats sexist. Do you see the pattern? |

The irony of you calling someone's post racist when you are happy to defend John Terry for his crimes. Don't give me the well he wasn't found guilty in a court of law either. He was caught on camera. |

If Germans all thought they were superior that would suggest some kind of single national hivemind. That would extend to other nationalities and there's no way I'm taking any blame for owen10.

Cobblers!
The irony of you calling someone's post racist when you are happy to defend John Terry for his crimes. Don't give me the well he wasn't found guilty in a court of law either. He was caught on camera. Someone posts a clearly prejudiced bigoted statement in the forum, and when you call them out on it, as a lot of people have here, we get a post like the above! Last time i checked, Mr Terry is not a criminal, so i have no idea why you have posted the above, if only to troll me? Anyway, lets get back on topic. Who is a good fit for assistant manager? |
