the inquests will begin over england but let's also congratulate this tiny nation on their brilliant performance and victory... they put us to shame.

and good luck to them against the french.

if only we had half the heart, spirit, belief, passion, desire and so on...

Couldn't agree more, loved it, but by god that was a long last 10 mins.

Played 4 games and yet to lose one of them. Outstanding achievement. I would love them to go further but I feel tonight was their cup final

They were magnificent. Full credit to them.

Would love them to keep going but I have no doubt the French will brush them aside and show how it should have been done.

Brilliant result for a country whose population is about that of a small UK of a small city, has handball as its national sport, believes in elves and eats raw puffins.

Gunnarsson mastered that throw at the Ricoh Arena, anyone who saw him set up big Scott Dann vs Newcastle that night will have seen their goal coming.

Well done to Iceland

More importantly... any new footage from the Icelandic commentator?

Congrats to them. Totally deserved.

Jokingly on a thread somewhere I said they'd beat England. Shows what happens when you don't take a team seriously.

Iceland has the same population as Leicester and look what happened there.

They were already national heroes just for qualifying. Now they will be gods.

Well done to them.

No matter what England did wrong, Iceland went out there and did their job with great aplomb. They stifled us in attack, ripped apart our defence and simply outplayed us most of the time in midfield...

Congrats Iceland on a thoroughly professional job!.

Many congrats to the Iceland team and their great fans.
I thought they'd come and put 10 men behind the ball and spoil for pens, but they had a go whenever they could and deserved the win.

I think Iceland did themselves proud... they must be so chuffed to have made it this far!

I will be cheering them on against France

Am still a bit flabbergasted as got home about 20 minutes in and it was already 2-1! Thought they were terrific, and after seeing the rest of the game and catching up on what I missed just now with Linekar and a well peed off yet articulate Shearer, it was absolutely a fair result.

So...Iceland to beat France and my lot to beat Belgium. Things have gone completely surreal in the last week or so, why the hell not?! Well done Iceland indeed.

Speaking as an icelander, I thought England would for sure win or at least draw, I'm gobsmacked. This is ridiculous, considering Iceland has the same population as Croydon. England really should have had the resources to win this game, I feel sorry for the team and the fans.

I did appreciate Wayne Rooney not talking down to the icelandic team before the game, unlike another captain. It just goes to show you should never underestimate the underdog.

^^^ LOL, I was there!

Never thought back then that Gunny's long throw would be key to unlocking England's defence at a Euro Championships.

But well done Iceland. When the French stop laughing at us tonight they'll realise they're up against a team of ice warriors for the next game. Full deserved their victory tonight.
